Structural Analysis Lead - Lunar Permanence Verified today
About this role
This position is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. You will conduct structural and dynamic analysis to support sustainable lunar infrastructure and crew and cargo transport from Earth to the lunar surface.
What you will do
- Conduct structural and dynamic analysis of valves, tubing, mounts, and other pressurized components
- Analyze non-linear thermal protection materials, designs, and attachments
- Support design certification for thermal structural components
- Provide technical guidance, oversight, and analysis review/approval for designers and other analysts
- Identify opportunities for safety improvements, cost savings, and weight savings
- Support configuration development and trade studies
- Review supplier analyses and support qualification efforts
- Maintain and report on work tasks, schedule, and technical status
Minimum Qualifications
- B.S. degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
- 8+ years of experience in structural and dynamic analysis of pressurized components and systems including valves, tubing/piping, and assemblies
- Experience with FEA analysis tools (ANSYS and/or Abaqus preferred) including structural, dynamic, and thermal analyses
- Working knowledge of 3D CAD programs (Creo Pro/E and Pro/E Piping module preferred)
- Experience overseeing, reviewing, or approving other analyst's work
- Expertise with fatigue analysis and fracture mechanics (hand calcs, NASGRO, VCCT, etc)
- Knowledge of manufacturing methods, material selection, testing, characterization, and allowables development
- Ability to earn trust and maintain positive professional relationships
- Ability to understand, document, and incorporate material and geometry nonlinearity and changing load paths into analysis models
- Ability to build and document material definitions in a local database
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with analysis of components involving welding or casting
- Experience with statistical analysis for preparation of design allowables
- Experience with cryogenic systems
- Deep understanding of bulk and film polymer and metal behavior under various load types and across significant temperature ranges
- Experience with one or more analysis codes: Nastran, Ansys (structural, dynamic, thermal, CFD), Abaqus, LS-Dyna, Optistruct
Compensation
Base Pay Range:
Colorado applicants: $133,500.00 - $186,898.95
Washington applicants: $145,188.00 - $203,263.20
