Role Overview

As a Structural Analyst for Ground Support Equipment and Tooling, you will provide structural analysis support for GSE and manufacturing tooling, including machining fixtures, assembly fixtures, and mechanical systems. You will conduct structural analyses, review both internally developed and vendor-produced designs, and offer structural design consultations to designers and external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Perform strength assessments using classical analysis techniques and finite element analysis (FEA) for tooling and ground support equipment
  • Document and review stress analyses to facilitate the release of engineering drawings and related documentation
  • Mentor tooling designers on best practices in stress, stability, and fracture analysis
  • Provide technical guidance on design concepts, including risk, cost, and performance trade-offs
  • Support cross-functional teams with input for design development, analysis, and trade studies
  • Lead conceptual and detailed analysis of tooling and equipment for the manufacture and assembly of structural components, mechanical and actuated systems, and hydraulic and fluid systems
  • Serve as the technical point of contact and responsible party for vendor-developed tooling projects

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (minimum) with at least 3 years of experience analyzing ground support equipment (GSE) or tooling in the automotive, aerospace or similar industry
  • Experience creating and validating finite element models (FEMs) using Ansys or NX Simulation with Nastran
  • Proven experience with FEA using 1D, 2D and 3D elements with models containing weldments and machined parts
  • Proficiency in generating free-body diagrams to calculate internal loads and reaction forces, and in simplifying and idealizing structural problems of varying complexity
  • Extensive experience analyzing steel and aluminum tooling, including machining fixtures and weldments using hand calculations
  • Proficiency in performing bolted joint hand calculations (bolt preload, joint stiffness, shear-tension interaction, insert pull-out, etc.)
  • Proficiency in performing welded joint hand calculations (required size, length, effective throat, direct and resultant stress, and failure modes)
  • Demonstrated ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Familiarity with applicable structural codes (AISC-360, ASME B30 and 31, ASME BTH-1, etc.)

Desired Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure
  • Proficiency with Creo and/or Siemens NX software
  • Strong customer focus and excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrated track record of successful project delivery
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously
  • Ability to clearly communicate analytical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences

Compensation and Benefits

Base pay range for Washington applicants: $99,201.00 - $138,880.35. Other site ranges may differ.
