Structural Analyst III – Fluids & Propulsion – Crew Lunar Lander Verified today

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, developing Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers. You will support development and testing of the main engines and supporting hardware on the MK2 Crew Lander as a vehicle-centric structural analyst for the integrated propulsion system, including development testing through flight operations.

You will work directly with NASA and National Team Partners as part of the Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD) programme. You will play a key role in developing the MK2 Crewed Lunar Lander that will return humans to the Moon.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and generate FEMs
  • Perform strength checks using classical hand calculations
  • Conduct Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) for critical components
  • Make predictions, implement test campaigns, and create reports in support of hardware qualifications
  • Collaborate with design engineers to optimise designs for weight, strength, and manufacturability
  • Document and review structural analyses to support the release of engineering drawings and documents
  • Provide input for configuration development and trade studies
  • Mentor designers and junior structural analysts in stress, stability, and fracture analysis
  • Leverage Artificial Intelligence tools to improve structural analysis processes

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. in Engineering
  • 5+ years of professional experience performing structural analysis on aircraft, spacecraft, or launch vehicle structures
  • Demonstrated knowledge of vehicle load path and stress analysis of metallic and/or composite structures (pressure vessels, skin-stringer, fittings, sandwich panels, etc.)
  • Familiarity with classical aerospace sizing methods (Bruhn, Niu, Roark, etc.)
  • Knowledge of engineering materials and their applications to achieve optimal structures
  • Experience with at least one of the following analysis codes: Nastran, Ansys, Abaqus, LS-Dyna, Optistruct, NASGRO
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
  • Willingness to work on-site with occasional travel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience performing structural analysis of liquid or gaseous propulsion tubing and systems
  • Experience supporting planning and execution of system or vehicle-level testing
  • Demonstrated experience with fluid systems and geometry optimisation methods
  • Demonstrated experience with metallic structural layout, analysis, testing, and qualification methods
  • Experience writing detailed design and analysis reports
  • Experience analysing and dispositioning non-conformances
  • Experience with Creo

Compensation

Base pay range varies by location: CA $121,023.00 to $169,432.20; CO $110,938.00 to $155,312.85; WA $121,023.00 to $169,432.20. Other site ranges may differ.
