About This Internship

You'll join Blue Origin's avionics software team on real projects supporting orbital rockets, ground systems, test stands, and lunar landers. Work directly with engineering teams on design, development, and testing of flight-critical hardware and software.

What You'll Do

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain software applications for avionics and flight systems
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on safety-critical, real-time embedded software for launch vehicle systems
  • Participate in full software lifecycle: requirements analysis, implementation, verification, documentation, and system integration
  • Write and review code primarily in C, C++, and Python for embedded and application environments
  • Create and maintain tools and infrastructure for efficient build, debugging, testing, deployment, and automation
  • Ensure reliability, quality, and safety in all delivered software
  • Review and update software requirements and designs for testability and verifiability

Mentorship and Experience

  • Gain hands-on, real-world experience with flight systems
  • Receive mentorship and feedback from engineers and managers
  • Participate in events to learn about other parts of the organization

Basic Qualifications

  • U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee
  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate with at least one semester or quarter remaining after the internship
  • Completed at least one year of full-time coursework post high school (sophomore standing minimum)
  • Available to work full-time for a minimum of 15 weeks without concurrent coursework
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong interest in Blue Origin's mission

Required Skills

  • Programming experience in at least one major language: C, C++, or Python
  • Experience in software development, problem solving, and debugging through coursework, co-ops, internships, or projects
  • Exposure to software verification, test planning and execution, or automated testing
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team on rapid development programs

Desired Experience

  • Hands-on project experience and extracurricular engagement
  • Relevant internship or co-op and academic project experience demonstrating technical skills and leadership qualities
  • Exposure to CI/CD
  • ARINC Standards and UML/SW Design

Compensation and Location

Hourly rate: $32.00

Blue Origin offers housing and relocation support. Interns are responsible for daily transportation to and from work locations.
