About the role

You will join the Lunar Permanence business unit as a System Safety and Reliability Engineer supporting the Core Avionics group. Core Avionics develops and tests electrical components including power, command and data handling, and guidance, navigation and control systems.

Working with NASA and National Team Partners on the Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development program, you will develop system safety processes and work products for avionics hardware lifecycle development. Your results will directly influence hardware requirements and support system trades for safe and reliable lunar operations.

What you will do

  • Develop Functional Hazard Assessments (FHA), Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analyses (FMECA), and reliability predictions for avionics hardware
  • Support development of Fault Tree Analyses (FTA), Hazard Sheets, Common Cause Analyses (CCA), Architecture Safety Allocations (ASA), and Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP)
  • Ensure traceability between subsystem and component functions, requirements, and safety artifacts
  • Collaborate with Vehicle Systems Engineers to ensure commonality across safety products

What you must have

  • B.S. degree or equivalent relevant experience in engineering or related technical field
  • 2+ years of strong system safety and mission assurance experience, including FMECAs, FTAs, and FHAs
  • 5+ years of proven industry experience in electronic hardware development
  • Experience with reliability predictions per MIL-HDBK-217F, 217Plus, PRISM, or equivalent
  • Applied knowledge of systems engineering principles including requirements development, validation, and verification
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to earn trust and maintain positive professional relationships

What we prefer

  • M.S. in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical subject area
  • Experience with aerospace safety standards such as MIL-STD-882 or SAE ARP-4761
  • Experience with reliability data sources such as NPRD and EPRD, and Windchill software for reliability models and FTAs
  • Experience with reliability and life test design, Weibull analysis, stress-strength interference analyses, and probabilistic risk analysis
  • Experience with Physics of Failure and analysis toolsets such as Ansys Sherlock
  • Applied industry experience with spaceborne avionics

Compensation and location

Base pay range: CO applicants $119,814 to $167,738.55 per year; WA applicants $130,706 to $182,987.70 per year. Other site ranges may differ.

Relocation provided. Travel up to 15% as needed.
