Systems Engineer III - Fault Management, MK2 Lunar Lander Verified today
Role Overview
You will work as a Fault Management Systems Engineer for Blue Origin's Lunar Permanence business unit, developing system-level fault protection behaviors and leading subsystem teams in the integration of lower-level fault protection. You will be a key technical voice at the interface of subsystems, safety, and operations teams to ensure the safety and reliability of crewed and uncrewed lunar missions on the MK2 Lunar Lander.
Responsibilities
- Design autonomous Fault Detection Isolation and Recovery (FDIR) mechanisms, including fault protection state machines, monitors, and responses
- Decompose failure modes, effects, and criticality analyses (FMECA), fault tree analyses (FTA), and hazard analyses into required system autonomy
- Define and model vehicle states, modes, conditions, activities, and functions
- Lead cross-functional working groups with subsystem engineers to develop and integrate fault protection mechanisms
- Support implementation of autonomous behaviors in flight software
- Support development of system of system models and timelines for the broader lunar program
- Support systems safety work as required
Minimum Qualifications
- B.S. in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science, or related technical subject area
- Highly knowledgeable of systems engineering practices, integration processes, and mission/safety critical systems
- Strong ability to analyze complex systems and deliver solutions to results-oriented problems
- Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of relevant experience
- M.S. in Aerospace, Mechanical, Systems, Software, Electrical, or related technical subject area
- Demonstrated experience developing fault protection, FDIR, or autonomous response behaviors for spacecraft, launch vehicles, aircraft, or comparable complex systems
- Technical knowledge in multiple subsystems, particularly guidance navigation and control, and flight software
- Experience with full spacecraft design life cycle
- Experience working on large complex programs with multiple partners
- Experience with requirements definition and management, preferably using Jama
- Experience with software tools such as Git, Jama, Cameo, Confluence, and JIRA
Compensation and Location
Base pay range for Washington applicants: $121,023.00 to $169,432.20. Other site ranges may differ. Position located in Greater Seattle Area.
