About the role

You will help define Blue Origin's Human Landing System (HLS) as part of the System Definition & Certification team. You will own requirements, safety, and verification for a complex, cross-cutting area of the system with minimal oversight, and set the technical plan for how that scope is proven out.

What you will do

  • Own requirements decomposition, allocation, and traceability for a complex, cross-cutting area of the system with minimal oversight, and set the technical plan for how it is proven out
  • Own the verification approach and its closure for your area, including verification requirements, methods, procedures, and evidence that requirements are met
  • Leverage system safety work for your scope to drive real change in the system and disposition variances and deviations against a risk-based standard
  • Perform root-cause analysis and corrective action on major-scope technical issues
  • Serve as the systems-engineering point of contact for your area to design integrated product teams, and represent it at engineering and programme reviews
  • Drive tool and process improvements to remove manual steps from the requirements and verification workflow

What you need

  • B.S. in aerospace, systems, or a related engineering field (an advanced degree may substitute for a portion of the experience requirement)
  • 5-8 years of experience solving systems-level engineering problems, with demonstrated work in requirements, verification, or system safety
  • Demonstrated ownership of a complex, cross-cutting technical area with minimal oversight
  • Working knowledge of interface management (ICDs, IRDs), requirements traceability and verification, and variance and deviation processes
  • Ability to set a technical plan for a scope and drive it to closure across design teams without direct authority
  • Proficiency with systems engineering tooling (Jama, DOORS, Cameo, Windchill) and a track record of working in tool-driven workflows
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Preferred qualifications

  • Advanced degree in an engineering or technical discipline
  • Human spaceflight, crewed vehicle, launch vehicle, or other complex integrated-system experience
  • Experience from another safety-critical or regulated industry (medical devices, commercial aviation, nuclear, automotive) owning requirements, verification, or safety analysis for a complex product
  • Experience with hazard analyses, safety-critical requirements, and certification against a customer baseline
  • History of introducing a tool or process improvement that was adopted by others and cut manual effort or error rate
  • Experience as a systems-engineering point of contact interfacing with a customer or partner

  • Travel: Up to 25% expected to support cross-site and partner coordination

Compensation and benefits

Base pay ranges (by location):

  • CA: $121,023.00 - $169,432.20
  • CO: $110,938.00 - $155,312.85
  • WA: $121,023.00 - $169,432.20
  • Other site ranges may differ
