Systems Engineer III - New Glenn Upper Stage Verified today
About the Role
You will support the development and operations of New Glenn, a heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. As part of the New Glenn Upper Stage and Payload Accommodations (GS2PA) Program, you will be the technical authority on your subsystem's operations, including CONOPS, functional architecture, and integrated hardware/software functionality.
You will be accountable for requirements authoring, trade studies, margin development, risk management, system safety analysis, and regulatory compliance. You will feed lessons learned from component testing and autonomous software development into integrated vehicle operations, and collaborate with stage-level engineers to create constraints, alerts, and limits for integrated test and launch teams.
Responsibilities
- Support Vehicle and Ground System Project Leads by carrying out systems engineering activities in accordance with Blue Origin standards and practices
- Build detailed CONOPS for pre-launch and flight operations
- Author, decompose, analyse, trace, and verify requirements
- Negotiate interfaces and coordinate between internal and external stakeholders
- Develop and implement verification plans and strategies
- Define operational constraints for safe handling and successful subsystem operation
- Lead gated reviews and support program-level gated reviews
- Author and maintain system safety documentation including Functional Hazard Assessments, Architecture Safety Assessments, Fault Tree Analyses, and Failure Mode, Effects, and Criticality Analysis
- Collaborate with integrated test, launch operations, and autonomous flight operations teams to incorporate constraints into procedures and flight plans
- Provide real-time engineering anomaly resolution during integrated test and launch operations
Minimum Qualifications
- B.S. degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace Engineering, or other technical field
- 5+ years of current technical hands-on experience in Fluids, Thermal, Propulsion, Cryogenics, or Pneumatics
- Technical hands-on experience in at least one of: Analysis, Design, Testing, or launch operations
- Hands-on experience developing, authoring, and implementing integrated tests or operating launch vehicles
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in teams and lead through influence
- Experience in systems engineering on launch vehicles, spacecraft, or highly regulated industries
- Experience writing or consuming requirements
- Ability to operate, make decisions, and lead in ambiguous environments
Preferred Qualifications
- Launch vehicle controller experience (front room or engineering back room)
- Experience with system safety
- System integration experience, preferably with aerospace hardware
- Knowledge of current systems engineering processes and methodologies
- Experience with DOORS Next Generation or equivalent requirements management software
- Experience in reliability, maintainability and operability analysis and execution
- Experience with collaboration tools such as Confluence and JIRA
