Systems Engineer, MK1 Vehicle Definition and Test Verified today
Role Overview
You will own vehicle design products and define avionics-focused integrated vehicle functional test scope for the MK1 lunar lander system. You will own the vehicle functional test matrices that connect avionics requirements to the tests that verify them, defining objectives and providing traceability to requirements at the integrated vehicle level. Your work will play a key role in verification and certification of the spacecraft and mission success.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and maintain vehicle functional test matrices, mapping avionics and software-interfacing requirements to test cases, test configurations, and verification closure paths
- Define test scope, objectives, success criteria, and pass/fail limits for avionics functional vehicle testing including power-up/power distribution, command and data handling, bus and network integrity, sensor end-to-end checks, GN&C phasing and polarity, harness and continuity verification, and EMI/EMC
- Perform data review, generate test reports, and close out requirement verification
- Own avionics and software related vehicle requirements, design parameters, design products, ICDs, and budgets
- Automate the capture, formatting, and traceability of verification evidence by building scripts, data pipelines, and AI/LLM-assisted tooling to reduce manual effort in evidence collection, requirement-to-evidence linking, test-matrix maintenance, and verification status reporting
- Identify and resolve gaps and inconsistencies between requirements, test coverage, and captured evidence; drive closure with requirements owners and IPTs
- Lead test anomaly response, troubleshooting, tracking, and reporting for assigned test scope
- Support Test Readiness Reviews, test execution, and verification audits
- Contribute to hazard analysis and control verification related to integrated vehicle test activities
- Partner across Avionics, Software, GN&C, Comms, and EPS IPTs and the test team to sequence test scope against build and integration flow
Minimum Qualifications
- B.S. degree in aerospace, electrical, systems, or computer engineering, or a related field
- 5+ years of systems or test engineering experience spanning requirements definition, traceability, interface definition, integration, test, verification, and validation
- Hands-on experience planning and executing functional testing on avionics-rich systems (spacecraft, aircraft, launch vehicles, or comparable complex electromechanical systems)
- Working knowledge of spacecraft avionics architectures: power distribution, C&DH, data buses, and sensor interfaces
- Demonstrated scripting or software ability (e.g., Python) applied to test data, test automation, or engineering data management
- Experience owning a verification or test artifact end to end (matrix, plan, procedure, or closure package)
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate technical information effectively
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building automation or AI/LLM-based tooling against engineering data (requirements databases, test results, or document generation)
- Experience with requirements management tools and verification database tools, including their APIs
- Experience with hardware-in-the-loop or avionics integration lab testing for spacecraft
- Experience with thermal vacuum, vibration, acoustic, or EMI/EMC campaigns on flight hardware
- Experience with integrated hazard analysis and control verification for spacecraft
- Experience with lunar, deep space, or planetary missions
