About the role
You will work as part of the Zero Boil Off Turbomachinery Team within Blue Origin's Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Moon landers. You'll take on design, analysis, and test responsibilities for compressors and expanders, and collaborate with manufacturing on assembly, fabrication, and part non-conformance issues. This role requires dedicated commitment to safe and repeatable spaceflight operations.
What you'll do
- Work at significant technical depth on complex turbomachinery subsystems with minimal oversight
- Apply systems engineering fundamentals across the full development cycle: concept, requirements, design, analysis, validation, integration, safety, configuration management, verification, and test
- Understand and manage key Technical Performance Metrics for the system
- Support component and subsystem analysis and test development and execution
- Coordinate plans for subsystem level verification test and analysis
- Organize and prepare for technical reviews
- Maintain system level architecture diagrams and schematics
- Balance rapid development objectives with standard systems engineering processes
- Lead trade studies, component design and integration, first-order analysis, and supplier interface activities
- Mentor junior engineers on systems engineering processes and methods
- Participate in customer interactions requiring your technical expertise
Required qualifications
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or similar discipline
- 5 or more years experience in Systems Engineering
- Experience working on highly engineered products in rapid development environments
- Experience working with cryogenic fluids
- Deep understanding of systems engineering principles: requirements definition, requirements traceability, functional decomposition, verification, validation, interface control documents (ICD), configuration management, and systems engineering management plans (SEMP)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with project members to drive progress toward milestones
Preferred qualifications
- M.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical subject
- 7 or more years of aerospace systems engineering experience
- Experience with turbomachinery production, qualification testing, and flight operations
- Experience with requirements management tools (DOORS Next Gen, JAMA, etc.)
- Previous customer-facing roles with presentation and direct customer interaction experience
Compensation and benefits
For Washington applicants: $121,023.00 to $169,432.20 annually. Other site ranges may differ.
