About the Role
As an Avionics Technician at Blue Origin, you will provide tactical and technical support to engineering, production, and manufacturing teams by fabricating, testing, repairing, and installing avionic equipment for both flight and non-flight systems. You will work from schematics, diagrams, and detailed written instructions to assemble, validate, troubleshoot, and upgrade avionics components. Your responsibilities span the entire lifecycle of avionics equipment, ensuring every system meets the highest standards of safety and mission readiness.
Position Details
- Location: Space Coast, FL
- Shifts: Shift A (Mon-Fri 6am-2:30pm), Shift B (Mon-Fri 2pm-10:30pm), Shift C (Fri-Sun 6am-6:30pm), Shift D (Fri-Sun 6pm-6:30am)
- Relocation: Available
Key Responsibilities
- Fabricate, assemble, and install avionic equipment including wire harnesses, sensors, avionics boxes, and instrumentation for flight and non-flight systems
- Perform functional testing, validation, and operational checkout using oscilloscopes, signal generators, and specialized diagnostic tools
- Diagnose, repair, and modify avionic hardware using schematics, diagrams, and detailed work instructions
- Operate precision calibrated tools such as torque wrenches and micrometers to ensure quality and safety standards
- Mate and demate harnesses, route cables, perform soldering, crimping, connector rework, and sensor installations to aerospace standards
- Support troubleshooting and maintenance activities during production and continuous improvement efforts
- Maintain a clean, organized workspace and apply 5S principles
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and provide technical expertise
- Accurately document work completed and provide timely feedback to engineering and quality teams
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience in aerospace manufacturing, integration, or a related field (0-3 years Level I Technician, 3+ years Level II Technician, 5+ years Level III Technician, 8+ years Sr. Level Technician)
- Ability to accurately interpret engineering drawings, electrical schematics, and technical documentation
- Experience with precision calibration tools including torque wrenches, micrometers, and calipers
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and work at heights (work stands, ladders, lifts) and in confined spaces
- Expertise with adhesives, sealants, and fasteners
- Proficiency in basic computer applications including Windows and Microsoft Office
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified in IPC/WHMA-A-620 Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies, J-STD-001 Solder (including Space Addendum), or NASA-STD-8739.4
- Experience with spaceflight hardware assembly, integration, and test
- Skilled in soldering, crimping, connector rework, and basic harness fabrication and repair
- Ability to test and install sensors such as accelerometers, thermocouples, pressure sensors, strain gages, microphones, RTDs, and cameras
- Experience in cable routing, harness mating and demating, part marking, and safety cabling
- Use of digital multimeter for continuity, resistance, and voltage readings
- Confidence in reading 2D drawings, basic measurement techniques, and using hand tools
- Meticulous attention to detail and adherence to quality standards
- Demonstrated success in hands-on roles with continuous improvement mindset and ability to adapt in fast-paced environments
- Previous experience supporting both flight and non-flight ground support systems
