Lunar Avionics Technician | A Shift

Location: Kent, WA

Shift: Monday-Thursday, 5:00am-3:30pm (A Shift)

Base Pay Range (WA): $29.91 - $41.87/hr

About the role

You will provide hands-on support to engineering and manufacturing by testing, assembling, modifying and repairing flight-grade avionics for lunar vehicles. Your work will include PCBA assembly and rework, cable harness fabrication, precision assembly of optical and laser components, and general mechanical assembly. You will work from schematics and technical plans to perform testing, checkout and troubleshooting. Work is performed in laboratory, manufacturing floor and vehicle environments depending on production needs.

What you will do

• Assemble, repair and evaluate electrical and mechanical avionics assemblies for lunar vehicles across development, test and flight environments
• Perform hand soldering, component-level board work and mechanical assembly with high technical proficiency
• Test, inspect and certify work to relevant aerospace standards and specifications
• Fabricate, terminate and repair wire harnesses and internal cable assemblies
• Troubleshoot systems and equipment; identify and assist in remedying malfunctions
• Work directly with engineering to determine best practices for assembly and update work instructions
• Provide input on manufacturing improvements and build changes for efficiency gains
• Serve internal and external customers across multiple systems and platforms

Minimum qualifications

• 3 or more years' experience in aerospace avionics or related fields
• Familiarity with ESD/EPA work environments and tool control/accountability processes
• Experience using standard electronics assembly tools, hand soldering and basic electronic test equipment (multimeters, power supplies)
• Experience applying torque to fasteners and components
• Experience fabricating, terminating and testing wire harnesses
• Experience applying and removing polymerics (staking, potting, encapsulation, conformal coating)
• Experience inspecting and certifying work to relevant standards and specifications
• Ability to lift 50 lbs
• Ability to work 40-hour week (4x10-hour days) with occasional overtime to support launch schedules
• Attention to detail and passion for space

Preferred qualifications

• 5-7 years of experience in launch vehicle or propulsion system assembly, CCA or PCBA repair, or component replacement
• Experience with RF assemblies, camera optical systems and LIDAR systems
• Clean room experience, specifically Class 7 operations
• Certification in or knowledge of IPC standards: J-STD/J-STD Space, 610, 7711/7721 Rework, 620/620 Space Addendum
• Laser experience including optical systems, laser safety and output characterization measurements
• Experience performing calibration and characterization of imaging systems (MTF, distortion, color accuracy, stray light)
• Experience assembling and fine-aligning optical elements, inspecting for defects, applying adhesives and epoxies, verifying optical performance using test equipment
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, electronic work orders and configuration management systems
• Experience documenting non-conformances and carrying out dispositioned repairs
