About the role
You will work with a small, accomplished team in Blue Origin Operations to develop, construct, operate, and test liquid rocket engine facilities. You will contribute hands-on engineering and project management across all aspects of test stand operations, helping the team meet an ambitious test cadence.
Responsibilities
- Develop, construct, operate, and maintain test facilities for liquid rocket engine development and production
- Generate and implement test procedures for high pressure inert and non-inert gas systems and cryogenic fluid systems
- Review and interpret test data to assess facility and component performance
- Specify and procure components and materials; manage vendors and subcontractors
- Plan and complete facility maintenance and construction of new capabilities
- Contribute to schedule, configuration, quality, cost, and process safety management
- Identify continuous improvements for workplace safety, schedule performance, and cost savings
Required qualifications
- BS degree in engineering or related field
- 2-3 years of industry experience in rocket engine testing
- Strong background in fluid dynamics and thermodynamics
- Strong project management, team leadership, and interpersonal skills
- Strong technical and non-technical writing and verbal skills
- Desire to take ownership of projects
- Ability to earn trust and maintain positive professional relationships
- Must be eligible to gain access to Redstone Arsenal
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Physical requirements
Test Operations is a physically active, year-round role with both indoor and outdoor work in all weather conditions. You must be able to:
- Lift 50 lbs
- Climb multiple flights of stairs
- Work at heights
Shift work and extra hours as needed.
Desired skills and experience
- Expertise in liquid rocket engine test stand design and operation of pressurized gas systems, cryogenic fluid systems (LH2, LOX, LNG, LN2), instrumentation or DAC systems, and liquid rocket propulsion systems
- Technical expertise in component and system level testing of propulsion and spaceflight hardware through development, qualification, and acceptance test campaigns
- Experience working with technicians on test facilities and leading test operations
- Experience performing process hazard and root cause analyses
- Ability to size, select, and troubleshoot fluid system components and instrumentation
- Experience operating, troubleshooting, and writing software for data acquisition and control systems
- Proficiency in LabVIEW, AutoCAD P&ID, Winplot, Windchill, or Creo
- Knowledge of fabrication, integration processes, systems engineering, and quality control practices
