Test Engineer II Blue Batteries (Lithium Ion Cells) Verified today
The Role
You will apply engineering techniques to design, develop, execute, and analyze tests for electrical components and systems. Your focus will be on evaluating, selecting, and testing lithium-ion cells and battery systems. You will take responsibility for designing and executing comprehensive test plans to validate electronic subsystems that monitor, communicate with, and control launch vehicles, spacecraft, satellites, and their ground support systems.
This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar space, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.
What You Will Do
- Lead testing for lithium-ion cells, modules and energy storage systems for spacecraft applications
- Design experimental and standard tests for new products and components
- Develop and create comprehensive test plans for electrical and electronic systems
- Document test articles, test configuration, and reference documents
- Collect data, analyze results, evaluate trends and report findings
- Write test scripts based on test purpose
- Perform battery and cell electrical performance testing in engineering laboratory or testing facility
- Execute environmental testing including thermal cycling, vibration, shock, and EMI/EMC
- Lead test failure investigations and root cause analysis
- Participate in Design Reviews and Requirement Traceability
- Deliver Test Compliance Matrix
- Understand Certification and Regulatory Requirements to execute lab tests (MIL-STD 461, DO-160, DO-178, DO-254, etc.)
- Participate in cross-functional teams for Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis (DFMEA), Root Cause Investigations, and Functional Safety Hazard Analyses
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field
- Experience with lab test equipment (Power Supply, DMM, Oscilloscope, etc.)
- Experience with software tools such as LabView, JIRA, Matlab, or similar tools
- Direct hands-on experience developing and executing test plans for complex electronics systems
- Familiarity with industry-standard electrical test equipment and procedures
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
- Experience with battery or cell testing equipment (e.g., Arbin or similar systems)
- Experience with fault tree analysis and Design Failure Mode and Effects (DFMEA) analysis for HV systems
- Experience performing modeling and simulation of electrical and/or electrochemical systems
- Experience conducting tests in challenging environments
- Experience with R&D or systems integration environments
- HV battery experience
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory requirements related to battery systems in aerospace applications
