About the Role
As a Test Engineer III on the VEEx (Vacuum Engine Experiment) team, you will support test operations for a wide range of vehicle components including heat exchangers, hydraulic pumps, in-space propulsion systems, and lunar vehicle subsystems. You will contribute to test planning and execution, identify and mitigate risks, integrate hardware for test campaigns, perform pre and post-test inspections, and analyse test data and performance.
This position is part of Blue Origin Operations, which spans Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance across all Blue Origin facilities.
Responsibilities
- Assist with test planning and execution for development and flight-rated hardware
- Perform hardware integration for test campaigns
- Conduct pre and post-test inspections
- Review test data and perform performance analysis
- Identify and mitigate test-related risks
- Apply technical expertise to support safe spaceflight operations
Minimum Qualifications
- B.S. Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
- 2+ years of experience in a testing environment
- 2+ years of experience executing test procedures
- Demonstrated familiarity with data analysis
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects and work independently
- Strong technical fundamentals in fluids and thermodynamics
- Ability to read and interpret engineering standards, technical requirements, and engineering drawings
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with experimental lab experience
- Rocketry experience through internships or club activities
- Cryogenic experience
- Experience designing, fabricating, or operating fluid systems
- Knowledge of instrumentation including pressure transducers, thermocouples, silicon diodes, resistance temperature detectors, and accelerometers
- Operational understanding of engines and engine sub-components such as turbopumps, combustion devices, valves, and fluid components
- Hands-on experience integrating test articles and sub-assemblies
- Familiarity with LabVIEW, MATLAB, Winplot, IGS, or other control and data acquisition software
- Familiarity with CAD applications (Creo preferred)
Physical Requirements
Test Operations is a physically active, year-round role with both indoor and outdoor work in varying weather conditions including rain, wind, cold, heat, and humidity.
