Test Engineer III – Motion Control, Honeybee Robotics (EGSE & Test Software) Verified today
About This Role
You will design, develop, and validate electrical ground support equipment (EGSE) to test precision motion control mechanisms for TeraWave, a multi-orbit satellite constellation delivering advanced space communications. This is a hands-on combination of test strategy, equipment development, test execution, and data analysis within Honeybee Robotics' Motion Control Business Unit at Blue Origin.
TeraWave relies on novel Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) technology and precision pointing and deployment mechanisms. Your work will directly support the mechanisms and motion control hardware that enable next-generation enterprise-grade space communications.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and validate EGSE to electrically interface with, power, command, stimulate, and measure mechanisms under test
- Develop test software and automated test sequences (e.g., Python, LabVIEW) to command EGSE, orchestrate test execution, and collect, analyze, and report measurement data with real-time monitoring
- Design, set up, and operate test fixtures, ground support equipment, and data acquisition systems for electromechanical system testing
- Collaborate with design, systems, and quality engineers to derive, allocate, and verify test requirements
- Support test readiness reviews (TRRs), test anomaly investigations, and failure review boards (FRBs)
- Perform other duties as assigned to support program, test, and business priorities
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, or closely related technical discipline
- Minimum 5 years hands-on experience developing EGSE, automated test equipment (ATE), and/or test software for hardware testing (aerospace or electromechanical systems experience preferred)
- Ability to read, interpret, and develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and interface control documents
- Experience with one programming language (Python, LabVIEW, C#) for analysis scripts, test software, or automated test sequences
- Experience with data acquisition systems and instrumentation (load cells, torque sensors, encoders, thermocouples, accelerometers)
- Demonstrated ability to analyze test data, identify anomalies, and drive resolution through structured problem-solving
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to document and present technical findings
- Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted as a refugee or granted asylum
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- Experience developing test software in compliance with NASA NPR 7150.2D or equivalent software assurance standards
- Familiarity with motion control and power transfer systems, including brushless DC motors, slip rings, flex harnesses, and motor drive electronics
- LabVIEW developer experience
- Proficiency with MATLAB, Python, or equivalent data analysis tools
- Experience with test automation and scripting for automated test execution
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and software development best practices
- Familiarity with MIL-STD-810, GEVS (GSFC-STD-7000), or equivalent aerospace qualification standards
- Knowledge of AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality management systems
- Familiarity with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools or requirements management platforms (e.g., DOORS, Jama)
- Experience supporting test campaigns at external test facilities or customer sites
- Prior experience in space hardware development with full product lifecycle testing exposure
