The Role
As a Test Stand Mechanical Build and Integration Technician III, you will support the build, fabrication, assembly, and integration of new test stands and upgrades to existing test stands for both engine and component test facilities. You will demonstrate operational excellence in fabrication and integration for new test capabilities while reviewing, improving, and following procedures and processes.
This position is part of Blue Origin Operations, which includes Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance across all Blue Origin facilities.
What You Will Do
- Build test stand sub-assemblies such as pneumatic panels
- Integrate sub-assemblies and components to fielded test stands
- Fabricate and route tubing; perform tube bending
- Execute GTAW/GMAW and Orbital Tube Welding (OTW) and light fabrication work
- Install and checkout wire harnesses, electrical components, and instrumentation
- Work with Ground System Development Engineers and Build Manager on daily scheduled tasks
- Review work instructions for accuracy and provide feedback to Build Engineers
- Safely work with hazardous chemicals, cryogenics, and high-pressure fluid systems
- Lead pre-task briefings for work tasks
- Oversee external contractor work to ensure safe and competent completion to workmanship and technical standards
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in safety, cost-savings, and process efficiency
- Maintain understanding of 5S, FOD control procedures, and Quality Management System (AS9100)
Your Background
- Minimum 5+ years hands-on experience in fabrication, build, and/or integration of hardware in aerospace, aviation, military, oil and gas, nuclear, or related industries
- Knowledge of and ability to safely work with standard mechanical tools and shop fabrication equipment with required PPE
- Experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, and/or pressurized gas/fluid systems
- Ability to interpret P&ID schematics, engineering models, drawings, specifications, written work instructions, and test procedures
- Ability to identify non-conformances and support implementation of corrective actions
- Proficient computer skills and MS Office
- Flexibility to work varying work schedules and shifts
- Able to lift 40 lbs; work from heights exceeding 150 feet; climb stairs and ladders; work in varying weather conditions
- Motivated self-starter with ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong attention to detail, focus on safety and quality, and high workmanship standards
- Strong character and work ethic
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree, industry certification, and/or trade school training in a relevant field
- 8+ years hands-on experience in aerospace, oil and gas, or related industries working with hazardous pressurized systems
- Proficiency with calibrated equipment, GSE/fittings, and various test instrumentation and control components
- Strong technical and leadership skills with attention to detail, especially when leading teams on complex integration tasks
- In-depth knowledge of cryogenics propellants including LOx, LH2, LN2, and LNG or other cryogenic commodities
- Experience operating heavy lifting equipment such as cranes and forklifts around flight critical hardware
- CDL with Hazmat endorsement
- Certified Welder for structural and high-pressure pipe
Work Schedule and Location
This role is based at Blue Origin's West Texas Site in Van Horn, TX. Work schedule: 16 on/12 off rotating shifts (10-hour shifts). Shift openings available for A and B rotation.
