Thermal Analyst, CFD - Lunar Permanence Verified today
About the Role
You will be part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. As a key member of the Lunar Core Components Heat Transfer team, you will provide thermal analysis expertise to lunar vehicle architectures and contribute to groundbreaking thermal hardware development for lunar landers.
You will design, size, build, and test thermal hardware while driving designs through verification, applying your technical expertise and commitment to quality to support safe human spaceflight.
Minimum Qualifications
- B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
- 3+ years of relevant thermal engineering experience
- Strong grasp of heat transfer and fluid system fundamentals
- Familiarity with heat exchangers, cold plates, radiators, and other common spacecraft hardware
- Experience designing, sizing, building, and/or testing hardware
- Basic experience with CAD software, preferably Creo
- Experience with computational fluid dynamic (CFD) simulation methods for component-level analysis
- Experience with thermal analysis software tools such as Thermal Desktop, FloCAD, MATLAB, Python scripting, CFD++, or Ansys Fluent
- Demonstrated experience working in cross-functional teams to deliver results
Desired Qualifications
- M.S. or Ph.D. or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or related technical subject areas
- 5+ years of relevant aerospace experience
- Solid understanding of pumped fluid loop hardware such as pumps, cold plates, radiators, valves, heat exchangers, and semi-passive devices like sensors and heaters
- Experience solving a variety of thermal problems demonstrating breadth in application
- Significant experience with thermal analysis software tools such as Thermal Desktop, FloCAD, MATLAB, Python scripting, CFD++, or Ansys Fluent
- Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools experience
- Demonstrated anchoring first-principles models to higher-fidelity simulations and test data
- Experience modeling steady-state and transient systems, specifically thermal and fluid systems
- Understanding of aerospace best practices, methods, and procedures
- Experience supporting testing and correlating models with test data
- Experience creating P&IDs of fluid systems for compressible, incompressible, and two-phase systems
Compensation and Work Conditions
Base pay range varies by location:
- CA: $107,136.00 - $149,990.40
- CO: $98,208.00 - $137,491.20
- WA: $107,136.00 - $149,990.40
- Other site ranges may differ
Relocation provided. Travel expected up to 20% of the time.
