Join the Lunar Permanence business unit to develop thermal control systems for Blue Moon landers and lunar transport vehicles. You'll work with NASA and National Team Partners on the Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD) programme, contributing to sustainable infrastructure for crew and cargo transport to the lunar surface.

What you'll do

  • Perform system-level transient thermal analysis of lunar transport vehicles in ground, launch, Earth orbit, cis-lunar space, lunar orbit, and lunar surface environments using Thermal Desktop
  • Collect analysis inputs from stakeholders and responsible engineers
  • Develop new or modified thermal analysis models to represent vehicle configuration and behaviour
  • Create analysis cases to evaluate vehicle thermal performance in worst-case conditions
  • Post-process analysis results and draw engineering conclusions from output data
  • Check your own work and correct errors independently
  • Author and publish analysis reports to support engineering decision-making
  • Generate and present design review content to subsystem, vehicle, business unit partners and customers
  • Create work plans, document progress and report status to leads and managers

Minimum qualifications

  • B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
  • 4-5 years of relevant thermal engineering or analysis experience
  • Solid understanding of thermal fundamentals
  • Demonstrated thermal analysis skills
  • Familiarity with modelling spacecraft thermal performance using Thermal Desktop and Sinda/Fluint

Preferred qualifications

  • M.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
  • 8 years of relevant aerospace experience
  • Demonstrated expertise with Thermal Desktop and Sinda/Fluint
  • Experience solving a variety of thermal problems demonstrating breadth in analysis application
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages (Python, C/C++, FORTRAN, Matlab)
