About This Role
You will join the Lunar Core Components Heat Transfer team as a Thermal Design Engineer II, providing thermal hardware expertise for Blue Moon lander architectures. You will develop groundbreaking thermal hardware for lunar vehicles and drive those designs through build, test, and verification phases.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply thermal engineering expertise to Blue Moon lunar vehicle architectures
- Design, size, build, and test thermal hardware components
- Work across cross-functional teams to deliver thermal solutions
- Support aerospace hardware verification and validation processes
- Develop and manage thermal component specifications
Required Qualifications
- B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
- 3+ years of relevant thermal engineering experience
- Strong understanding of heat transfer and fluid system fundamentals
- Familiarity with heat exchangers, cold plates, and common spacecraft hardware
- Demonstrated experience designing, sizing, building, and testing hardware
- Understanding of aerospace hardware verification and validation processes
- Moderate CAD experience, preferably Creo
- Familiarity with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation for component-level analysis
- Demonstrated experience working in cross-functional teams
Desired Qualifications
- M.S. or Ph.D. in mechanical or aerospace engineering
- 5+ years of relevant aerospace experience
- Solid understanding of pumped fluid loop hardware including pumps, cold plates, radiators, valves, heat exchangers, and semi-passive devices such as sensors and heaters
- Familiarity with standards such as AS9100D, ASME, SAE, AWS, and ANSI Y14.5
- Experience solving diverse thermal problems across multiple applications
- Vendor technical management experience
- Design for manufacturability and assembly experience
- Advanced Creo modeling and drawing creation skills
- Familiarity with precision drilling techniques
- Complex Creo modeling techniques and hole patterning experience
- Familiarity with Thermal Desktop and Sinda/Fluint, including model validation and test correlation
- CFD optimization experience with cold plates and heat exchangers
- Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools experience
Work Arrangement
- Travel expected up to 20% of the time
- Relocation provided
Compensation
Base pay ranges by location:
- California applicants: $107,136.00 - $149,990.40
- Colorado applicants: $98,208.00 - $137,491.20
- Washington applicants: $107,136.00 - $149,990.40
- Other site ranges may differ
