About this role

You will contribute to the definition and development of spacecraft thermal control systems for the Blue Moon Crew Lander, part of Blue Origin's Lunar Permanence business unit. Working directly with NASA on the Human Landing System (HLS), you will be responsible for Active Thermal Control fluid routing design, build, integration, testing, and verification.

What you will do

  • Design and develop Active Thermal Control fluid routing systems for the HLS Crew Lander
  • Ensure thermal components and working fluids are fully qualified before vehicle assembly and system-level testing
  • Provide manufacturing and production support for your hardware
  • Provide technical guidance for integration
  • Apply practical approaches to hardware fabrication and cost impacts
  • Create test plans, specifications, and documentation for flight hardware development
  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct tests; review and interpret test data
  • Maintain and report on activity schedule, budget, and technical status

Minimum qualifications

  • B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
  • 3 years of relevant Thermal Engineering or Mechanical Engineering experience
  • Strong mechanical design and integration skills using 3D CAD software
  • Demonstrated experience assembling and testing hardware
  • Understanding of aerospace hardware verification and validation process
  • Familiarity with spacecraft Active Thermal Control hardware: fittings, tubing, working fluids, heat exchangers, valves
  • Experience with CAD software, preferably Creo

Preferred qualifications

  • M.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
  • 5 years of relevant aerospace experience
  • Ability to apply structural mechanics principles and hand calculations or finite element analysis
  • Experience designing, building, and testing fluid routing systems
  • Design for manufacturability of fluid loop hardware
  • Material properties testing experience
  • Solid understanding of pumped fluid loop hardware: tubing, cold plates, radiators, valves, heat exchangers
  • Familiarity with analysis codes: Nastran, ANSYS, Optistruct, Abaqus, HyperMesh, Hypersizer
  • Professional experience applying GD&T per ASME Y14.5
  • Ability to work in integrated collaborative team environments
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational and communication skills in fast-paced environments

Compensation

Base Pay Range: CO applicants $98,208 - $137,491.20; WA applicants $107,136 - $149,990.40. Other site ranges may differ.
