About this role
As part of Blue Origin's Lunar Permanence business unit, you will provide thermal hardware expertise to Blue Moon lander architectures. You will contribute to a team of thermal engineers developing thermal solutions for lunar landers and drive those designs through build, test, and verification. This role requires applying your technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to support safe human spaceflight.
What you'll do
- Design, size, build, and test thermal hardware components for lunar vehicles
- Apply heat transfer and fluid system fundamentals to thermal architecture problems
- Work with heat exchangers, cold plates, radiators, and spacecraft thermal systems
- Conduct aerospace hardware verification and validation
- Create CAD models and specifications for thermal components
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver results
- Perform thermal analysis and component-level validation
Minimum qualifications
- B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
- 3+ years of relevant thermal engineering experience
- Strong grasp of heat transfer and fluid system fundamentals
- Familiarity with heat exchangers, cold plates, radiators, and spacecraft hardware
- Demonstrated experience designing, sizing, building, and testing hardware
- Understanding of aerospace hardware verification and validation processes
- Moderate experience with CAD software, preferably Creo
- Familiarity with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation methods for component-level analysis
- Experience designing and testing thermal components
- Demonstrated experience working in cross-functional teams
Desired qualifications
- M.S. or PhD degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
- 5+ years of relevant aerospace experience
- Solid understanding of pumped fluid loop hardware including pumps, cold plates, radiators, valves, heat exchangers, and semi-passive devices like sensors and heaters
- Familiarity with standards AS9100D, ASME, SAE, AWS, and ANSI Y14.5
- Experience solving a variety of thermal problems demonstrating breadth in application
- Vendor technical management experience
- Design for manufacturability and assembly experience
- Experience developing component specifications
- Demonstrated experience in Creo modeling and drawing creation
- Familiarity with Thermal Desktop and Sinda/Fluint, including model validation and test correlation
- Experience with CFD optimization of cold plates, heat exchangers, and radiators
- Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools experience
Compensation and benefits
Base pay range varies by location:
- CA: $107,136 - $149,990.40 annually
- CO: $98,208 - $137,491.20 annually
- WA: $107,136 - $149,990.40 annually
