About the Role
This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. You will be a key member of the Lunar Core Components Heat Transfer team, providing thermal hardware expertise to lunar vehicle architectures.
You will contribute to a team of thermal engineers simultaneously developing and verifying thermal hardware for lunar landers. You will apply technical expertise and commitment to quality to support safe human spaceflight.
Your Responsibilities
- Design, size, build, and test thermal hardware for lunar vehicles
- Apply heat transfer and fluid systems fundamentals to hardware development
- Work with heat exchangers, cold plates, radiators, and spacecraft thermal components
- Drive designs through aerospace verification and validation processes
- Collaborate across functional teams to deliver results
- Support thermal component specification development
Required Qualifications
- B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
- 3 or more years of relevant thermal engineering experience
- Strong grasp of heat transfer and fluid system fundamentals
- Familiarity with heat exchangers, cold plates, radiators, and common spacecraft hardware
- Demonstrated experience designing, sizing, building, and testing hardware
- Understanding of aerospace hardware verification and validation processes
- Moderate experience with CAD software, preferably Creo
- Familiarity with computational fluid dynamic (CFD) simulation methods for component-level analysis
- Experience designing and testing thermal components
- Demonstrated experience working in cross-functional teams
Desired Qualifications
- M.S. or PhD degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
- 5 or more years of relevant aerospace experience
- Solid understanding of pumped fluid loop hardware such as pumps, cold plates, radiators, valves, heat exchangers, and semi-passive devices like sensors and heaters
- Familiarity with relevant standards such as AS9100D, ASME, SAE, AWS, and ANSI Y14.5 specifications
- Experience solving a variety of thermal problems demonstrating breadth in application
- Vendor technical management experience
- Design for manufacturability and assembly experience
- Experience developing component specifications
- Demonstrated experience in Creo modeling and drawing creation
- Familiarity with Thermal Desktop and Sinda/Fluint, including model validation and test correlation
- Experience with CFD optimization of cold plates, heat exchangers, and radiators
- Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools experience
Compensation and Location
Base pay range varies by location:
- CA applicants: $107,136.00 to $149,990.40
- CO applicants: $98,208.00 to $137,491.20
- WA applicants: $107,136.00 to $149,990.40
Other site ranges may differ. Relocation is provided. Travel expected up to 20% of the time.
