Thermal Hardware Engineer II - Lunar Permanence Verified today
Role Overview
You will contribute to the definition and development of spacecraft thermal control systems as part of Blue Origin's Lunar Permanence business unit. Working in a fast-paced environment, you will apply technical expertise and leadership to develop sustainable infrastructure for crew and cargo transport to the lunar surface. You will work directly with NASA and National Team Partners on the Human Landing System (HLS).
Responsibilities
- Act as Responsible Engineer for thermal components from conception through development, testing, and integration
- Support internal or external development of thermal components
- Collaborate closely with the thermal analysis group within the Lunar Thermal Integrated Product Team
- Work with subsystem specifications, mission environments, and design and construction standards
- Produce component specifications, test plans, test execution reports, and test reports
- Perform occasional thermal analysis
- Support make or buy decisions for thermal components
Minimum Qualifications
- B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering, or equivalent on-the-job experience in spacecraft design
- 1-2 years of relevant thermal engineering experience
- Understanding of thermal fundamentals
- Demonstrated experience building or testing hardware
- Understanding of aerospace hardware verification and validation processes
- Ability to earn trust and maintain positive professional relationships
- Exposure to Thermal Desktop
Preferred Qualifications
- M.S. or PhD in mechanical or aerospace engineering
- 3 years of relevant aerospace experience
- Familiarity with common spacecraft thermal hardware
- Solid understanding of passive thermal control hardware such as conventional and cryogenic multilayer insulation, temperature sensors, and patch heaters
- Experience solving a variety of thermal problems
- Experience with vendor engagement and procurement
- Familiarity with Thermal Desktop and Sinda/Fluint, including model validation and test correlation
Compensation
Base pay range varies by location:
- CA: $107,136 - $149,990.40 per year
- CO: $98,208 - $137,491.20 per year
- WA: $107,136 - $149,990.40 per year
- Other site ranges may differ
