Thermal Hardware Engineer Sr- Lunar Permanence Verified today
The Role
You will contribute to the design, development, integration and test of thermal control systems for Blue Origin's lunar mission vehicles as part of the Lunar Permanence business unit. Working directly with NASA on the Human Landing System (HLS), you will play a key role in developing the thermal systems that will return humans to the Moon.
What You Will Do
- Design and develop module and vehicle level thermal assemblies from conception through development to flight operations
- Support internal or external development of thermal components and assemblies
- Work with multi-discipline product teams to mature module and vehicle designs
- Collaborate with the thermal analysis group on component and assembly thermal performance
- Analyze thermal performance using classical calculations and Thermal Desktop models
- Work with subsystem specifications, mission environments, and design and construction standards
- Produce component specifications, test plans, test execution reports, and test reports
- Develop short-term and long-term development plans
- Make decisions on make or buy for thermal components
Required Qualifications
- B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering or equivalent on-the-job experience in spacecraft design
- 8 years of relevant thermal engineering experience
- Expertise in thermal design fundamentals
- Demonstrated experience building and testing thermal hardware
- Understanding of aerospace hardware verification and validation processes
- Ability to manage hardware EBOMs, drawings and manufacturing artifacts
- Ability to earn trust and maintain positive professional relationships
Preferred Qualifications
- M.S. or PhD degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
- 10 years of relevant aerospace experience
- Solid understanding of passive thermal control hardware including multilayer insulation, heat spreaders, heat pipes, temperature sensors, isolators, thermal interface materials and heaters
- Experience solving a variety of thermal problems demonstrating breadth in application
- Demonstrated experience with common thermal hardware vendors
- Experience with hardware production support including pre-build DFx, manufacturing demonstration, hardware support planning, non-conformance disposition and in-situ problem solving
Compensation and Location
Base pay ranges by location:
- California: $156,802 - $219,522
- Colorado: $144,179 - $201,850
- Washington: $156,802 - $219,522
- Other site ranges may differ
