Senior Manager, Electrical Engineering
About the Role
Capella Space is seeking a Senior Manager of Electrical Engineering to lead and manage a team of electrical engineers who design, develop, and test electrical systems and components for satellite platforms. You will support project execution, ensure compliance with aerospace industry standards, and drive innovation across our electrical systems. This role sits within the Spacecraft Engineering team, alongside disciplines that design and develop satellite and payload systems.
Your Responsibilities
- Leadership and Management: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of electrical engineers, providing guidance and performance feedback across a distributed team in two offices. Assign tasks, manage workloads, and foster a collaborative environment.
- Project Oversight: Oversee design, development, and testing of electrical systems and components. Allocate resources to meet project goals and deadlines. Support systems engineering requirements.
- Technical Expertise: Provide guidance on electrical design, integration, and troubleshooting. Stay current with industry trends and regulatory requirements. Drive continuous improvement in engineering practices.
- Compliance and Quality Assurance: Ensure compliance with aerospace industry standards for safety, reliability, and regulatory requirements. Implement quality assurance procedures to maintain high standards.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's degree or higher preferred)
- Minimum 12 years designing, testing, and troubleshooting complex board designs and systems in a hardware R&D lab environment
- Minimum 4 years in a managerial or leadership role
- Proven experience in aerospace systems or similar high reliability industries
Required Skills and Experience
- Hardware evaluation methodologies, including test case development, performance analysis, test automation, and data analysis
- Extensive hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, thermal chambers, and test equipment
- Experience with I2C, SPI, PCIe, USB and similar digital communication protocols
- Designing modern analog and digital electronics
- PCB schematic capture and layout design
- Altium Designer or similar electronic CAD tools
- Designing high reliability systems
- Knowledge of PCBA fabrication and assembly processes
- Familiarity with PLM tools and strong revision control practices
- Design and manufacturing documentation with attention to detail
- Ability to work autonomously and evaluate courses of action independently
- Strong technical communication skills in collaborative environments
Work Location and Travel
This role is based onsite at our office in Louisville, CO, with the option to work a few days a week remotely. Travel up to 5% required.
Compensation and Benefits
Annual salary range: $192,979 to $220,000. Final salary determined based on education, qualifications, skills, and experience, calibrated against market data and internal equity.
