About the role

You will be responsible for the design, analysis, and validation of thermal control systems for CesiumAstro's next-generation products. As a senior member of a cross-functional team, you will own thermal designs from initial concept design through requirements definition, detailed design, simulation/analysis, manufacturing, testing, and qualification.

You will work closely with electrical and mechanical engineers to develop highly optimized solutions. You will also present engineering design review materials to customers and upper management, and participate in proposal-writing efforts.

Your responsibilities

  • Design and analyse thermal management systems for spacecraft, satellite electronics, and airborne systems
  • Build thermal resistance networks and reduced order thermal models for complex systems
  • Correlate thermal models with thermal chamber and TVAC test results
  • Develop analysis automation tools using spreadsheets or scripts
  • Present design reviews to customers and leadership
  • Contribute to proposal-writing efforts

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science or higher in Mechanical, Thermal, or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited institution
  • 5 years of industry experience in thermal and mechanical design and analysis using numerical and analytical techniques (Master of Science counts as 2 years)
  • Expertise in electronics/PCBA, box, and system-level thermal design and analysis
  • Strong proficiency in ANSYS or Thermal Desktop, and CAD tools such as SolidWorks
  • Strong mechanical engineering and heat transfer foundation
  • Experience designing and analysing radiative, conductive, and convective heat transfer for various applications
  • Familiarity with common manufacturing processes for thermal control systems
  • Familiarity with development of thermal control systems and fixtures for lab environments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred experience

  • Expertise in thermal management of phased array and/or high-power RF electronics
  • Experience in thermal analysis of electronics at die, lead-frame, and package level
  • Proficiency with computational scripting languages (Matlab, Python, Mathematica)
