About the role
CesiumAstro develops communication systems for satellites, UAVs, launch vehicles, and airborne platforms. We are seeking a Staff Communication Systems Engineer to lead technical programs and serve as the primary systems point of contact.
You will develop space architecture concepts, design sub-systems and payloads, establish requirements, perform analysis and decomposition, architect hardware and software systems, define operations concepts, and assess risk. You will coordinate across multidiscipline engineering teams, interface with customers on technical baselines, and drive complex programs to completion.
What you will do
- Evaluate customer and operational needs to define requirements, integrate technical parameters, and ensure compatibility of physical, functional, and program interfaces.
- Collaborate with program management on project scheduling and coordination.
- Serve as primary technical liaison with external customers for baseline discussions.
- Act as liaison between program management, engineering, and manufacturing to ensure effective communications.
- Develop system engineering processes for requirements management, flow down, and traceability.
- Perform risk analysis and develop mitigation strategies.
- Identify and resolve issues impeding engineering team progress.
- Foster efficiency and continuous improvement culture within programs.
What you bring
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field.
- Minimum 8 years of experience emphasizing space-based communication payloads.
- Practical experience with antenna and RF systems.
- Experience working with product and component developers and vendors providing critical system functionality.
- Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills.
- Proficiency with requirements management tools such as DOORS or Jama.
- Ability to define work direction, track milestones, and demonstrate progress on large open-ended projects.
- Sense of urgency and ability to work well under pressure.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities to identify, assess, and resolve complex technical challenges and design issues.
- Ability to work well with multifunctional teams.
