CesiumAstro develops communication systems for satellites, UAVs, launch vehicles, and other space and airborne platforms. We are seeking a Staff Communication Systems Engineer to join our Melbourne, FL team.

What you will do

  • Define requirements by evaluating customer and operational needs, integrating technical parameters, and assuring compatibility of all physical, functional, and program interfaces.
  • Develop space architecture concepts, sub-system design, payload design, and high-level software and hardware system architecture design.
  • Create requirements development, analysis, decomposition, and concept of operations (CONOPS) documentation.
  • Perform risk analysis and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Coordinate activities across multidiscipline engineering teams and raise issues at the program level.
  • Act as primary technical liaison between program management, engineering, manufacturing, and external customers for technical baseline discussions.
  • Partner with program management to support project scheduling and coordination.
  • Participate in developing system engineering processes for requirements management, flow down, and traceability.
  • Identify and resolve issues that may impede engineering team progress.
  • Foster a culture of efficiency and continuous improvement within programs.

What you need

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience with emphasis on space-based communication payloads.
  • Practical experience with antenna and RF systems.
  • Experience working with product and component developers and vendors who provide critical functionality to the overall system.
  • Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills.
  • Proficiency with a requirements management tool such as DOORS or Jama.
  • Ability to define work direction, track milestones, and demonstrate progress on large open-ended projects.
  • Sense of urgency and ability to work well under pressure.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and analytical abilities with capability to identify, assess, and resolve complex technical challenges and design issues.
  • Ability to work well with multifunctional teams.
