CesiumAstro develops communication systems for satellites, UAVs, launch vehicles, and aerospace platforms. We seek a Staff Communication Systems Engineer to lead technical strategy and execution for our communication programs.

What you will do

  • Evaluate customer and operational needs to define requirements, integrate technical parameters, and assure compatibility of all physical, functional, and program interfaces.
  • Develop space architecture concepts, subsystem design, payload design, requirements decomposition, and high-level software and hardware system architecture.
  • Develop concept of operations (CONOPS) and perform risk assessment and mitigation.
  • Act as primary technical point of contact with external customers for baseline discussions.
  • Coordinate activities across multidiscipline engineering teams and resolve issues that impede progress.
  • Collaborate with program management on project scheduling, coordination, and milestone tracking.
  • Participate in developing system engineering processes for requirements management, flow down, and traceability.
  • Foster a culture of efficiency and continuous improvement within programs.

What we need

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience with emphasis on space-based communication payloads.
  • Practical experience with antenna and RF systems.
  • Experience working with product and component developers and vendors providing critical system functionality.
  • Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills.
  • Proficiency with requirements management tools such as DOORS or Jama.
  • Ability to define work direction, track milestones, and demonstrate progress on large open-ended projects.
  • Sense of urgency and ability to work well under pressure.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and analytical abilities to identify, assess, and resolve complex technical challenges.
  • Ability to work effectively with multifunctional teams.
