CesiumAstro · El Segundo, CA · Electronics · first seen 2026-10-03

About the role

CesiumAstro develops communication systems for satellites, UAVs, launch vehicles, and airborne platforms. The Analog & Power Electronics team designs multi-output power supplies and point-of-load (PoL) supplies for RF and digital boards across our space and military products.

You will work directly with senior power electronics engineers on design projects that contribute to live programs or advance our technology roadmap. Your work spans the full development cycle: power architecture, part selection, schematic and PCB design, verification testing, and production release. You will gain hands-on experience in laboratory characterization and troubleshooting of power electronics systems.

What you will do

  • Support design of power conversion, power management and control, fault management, and power filtering circuits
  • Participate in analog and power electronics development for multi-output and PoL power supplies
  • Conduct laboratory characterization and troubleshooting of power electronics
  • Contribute design work to active programs or technology development initiatives

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in a Master of Science (MS) or PhD program in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering with focus in analog or power electronics
  • GPA 3.5 or higher
  • Strong fundamentals in electronics and coursework in power electronics, power systems modeling and control, control theory, linear systems theory, non-linear system theory, or analog electronics
  • Knowledge of DC-DC power converter topologies (discrete linear regulator, Buck, Buck-boost, Flyback, Forward, Half-bridge, Full-bridge)
  • Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, frequency response and impedance analyzers, electronic loads, power sources, and signal generators
  • Experience with SPICE, LTSPICE, SIMetrix/SIMPLIS, PLECS, Simulink, MATLAB, MathCAD, ANSYS Q3D, SiWave, or HyperLynx
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, conditional resident, asylee, or refugee status (or ability to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorization)

Preferred experience

  • Practical experience designing and building power electronics hardware for research, competition teams, extracurricular projects, prior internships, or advanced courses
  • Experience with Altium, OrCAD, Allegro, or Xpedition schematic capture and PCB layout
  • Power magnetics modeling, design, and laboratory characterization
  • Voltage mode or peak current mode control, including control loop modeling and lab work
  • GaN or SiC wide bandgap power semiconductor device applications
  • Soft switching and resonant power converter topologies (LLC, CLLC, series resonant, phase shifted full bridge, dual active bridge)
  • Programming support for hardware testing and data processing (Python, MATLAB)

Location and compensation

This is a compensated, onsite internship located at our El Segundo, CA facility for Summer 2027. Please include a brief cover letter describing your interest in power or analog electronics hardware design with your application.
