CesiumAstro develops communication systems for satellites, UAVs, launch vehicles, and other space and airborne platforms. We are hiring a Test Engineer II to join our Austin team.

What you will do

You will be responsible for designing and executing test plans and test equipment for space and airborne electronics. Level II Test Engineers author test plans and procedures, design test PCBs, and spend significant time in the lab assembling and testing cutting-edge phased array systems and components.

  • Design test plans for board-level electronic assemblies, working closely with design engineers.
  • Execute tests in the electronics lab, such as functional testing, digital signal integrity verification, or power converter control loop measurements.
  • Execute multi-board assembly testing, such as functional testing of complex phased array systems.
  • Design test fixtures or equipment, such as custom PCBs for test or integration purposes.
  • Plan integration of multiple prototype modules.
  • Assemble complex test setups, working with design engineers and technicians.
  • Troubleshoot and debug hardware issues.
  • Evaluate and document test results, presenting them to key stakeholders.

Minimum requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) or higher degree in Electrical Engineering or similar from an accredited university.
  • 2 years of relevant industry or research experience covering several of the responsibilities listed.
  • Programming or scripting experience, such as Python, LabVIEW, SQL, MATLAB, or Embedded C.
  • Experience designing and executing test plans for custom board-level electronics.
  • Hands-on experience with lab instruments such as digital oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, RF signal generators, and vector signal analyzers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Preferred qualifications

  • Industry experience in test engineering, such as internships.
  • Programming or scripting experience in Python.
  • Board-level hardware design.
  • Aerospace industry experience.
  • EMI/EMC test design and execution.
  • Understanding of RF and mixed-signal hardware (e.g. amplifiers, filters, ADCs/DACs, antennas).
