The Role

As an Electrical Engineer - Spacecraft Avionics, you will design, develop, and test avionics systems on our spacecraft. You own the entire process of designing the electrical architecture, testing, and integrating avionics components. You will develop HIL systems to verify functionality before spacecraft integration, working across software, mechanical, propulsion, fluids, and structures teams.

Your Responsibilities

  • Own the entire process of designing the electrical architecture, testing and integrating avionics components onto the spacecraft
  • Support assembly, integration, and test (AIT), launch integration, and on-orbit operations
  • Write and execute vehicle assembly procedures and electrical system functional validation processes
  • Lead high-level, functional design and development of avionics systems for current and future spacecraft
  • Develop design verification, qualification, and acceptance test plans, and coordinate execution with avionics and manufacturing engineers and technicians
  • Develop and execute development schedules, system-level test and operations plans
  • Write requirements and verify spacecraft avionics functionality
  • Recommend spacecraft function and reliability upgrades based on experience

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
  • 3+ years of experience in aerospace component development, testing, integration, or operations
  • Hands-on experience with analog and digital circuit design, including test equipment such as logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, signal generators, electronic loads, multimeters, and electrical schematics
  • Experience performing trade studies and sensitivity studies to select architecture options
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping circuits and testing
  • Requirement writing and verification
  • Technical writing, proper documentation, and SOP creation
  • Proactive mentality with ability to self-start
  • Experience with Python

Desired Qualifications

  • Aerospace avionics system design, development, testing, or operations
  • Power engineering, design, budgeting, and test
  • Software engineering, especially C, C++, Python, and Labview
  • Project planning, subcontractor management, and project management skills
  • Root cause corrective analysis techniques such as fault tree and fishbone analysis
  • PCB and hardware design
  • V-model design methodology
  • Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA)
  • GND and bonding design of spacecraft
  • Environmental analysis and testing, including thermal cycling, thermal vacuum, shock, and vibration
  • NASA GEVS or SMC-016 environmental testing
  • MIL-STD461 EMC testing
  • Collaboration with other engineering disciplines and regulatory authorities
