About Firefly Aerospace

Firefly Aerospace is a space and defense technology company on a mission to reliably and repeatedly launch, land, and operate space systems from Earth to the Moon and beyond. Firefly is the first commercial company to launch a satellite to orbit with 24-hour notice and the first company to achieve a successful Moon landing. Headquartered in north Austin, Texas.

The Role

You will design, develop, test, and obtain approval for RF transmission and communication systems for our launch vehicles and ground stations. You will lead entire projects through defining tasks, tracking progress, designing system architecture, coordinating with approval agencies, and solving development challenges. You will be part of the avionics team and work closely with teams across the company.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop flight RF systems and associated ground receiving stations
  • Manage acquisition of components, including subcontractor coordination
  • Coordinate in-house design, development, and test tasks to meet delivery schedules
  • Coordinate with government approval agencies to obtain operational approvals
  • Manage and coordinate team efforts to complete project tasks
  • Support vehicle testing and launch day activities as the RF systems expert
  • Support launch operations and communication systems as required
  • Support hardware simulation environments for end-to-end RF communication testing

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
  • 3+ years of engineering experience designing and developing electronics systems and assemblies, with emphasis on RF systems

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering with focus on communications systems, microwave engineering, or satellite development
  • Experience with flight vehicle RF transmission systems design and analysis
  • Experience with RF ground station design and operation
  • Experience with project management and small team leadership
  • Hands-on experience integrating electronics in airborne vehicles
  • Understanding of launch vehicle subsystems and how avionics integrate with RF systems
  • Experience with environmental analysis and testing including thermal cycle, thermal vacuum, shock, vibration, humidity, and salt fog
  • Experience designing link margin analysis for end-to-end systems
  • Experience with test equipment such as network analyzers, software defined radios, signal analyzers, signal generators, power meters, GPS simulators
  • Experience with Python, GNURadio, or LabView
  • Experience with Bit Error Rates (BER), System Noise Figure, EVM, OSI layers
  • Knowledge of communication systems including forward error correction (FEC), ranging tones, modulation types such as BPSK, OQPSK, SOQPSK, QAM, PCM/FM
  • Communication and documentation skills using Atlassian suite of tools
  • Ability to collaborate with other engineering disciplines and regulatory authorities

Benefits

Firefly offers generous health, dental, and vision plans with low deductibles, parental leave, educational reimbursement, short-term disability, pet insurance, and flexible PTO options.
