The Role
You will work with engineers and technicians at Firefly's test site to develop and test industry-disruptive launch vehicles. You need a strong mix of skills in instrumentation, electrical systems, and data acquisition. This role is located at our Cortex facility in Cedar Park, Texas.
Your Responsibilities
- Make cable harness assemblies for test operations across various projects
- Perform instrumentation checkouts for test operations
- Troubleshoot instrumentation and control system problems
- Calibrate and troubleshoot valve feedback signals
- Terminate Military Specification connectors
- Build Junction Boxes with instrumentation and control terminations
- Assemble and install electrical and electronic assembly units, sub units, boards, wire harnesses and cables for propulsion products
- Install connectors, connector pins, terminals and lugs
- Perform continuity checks, locate and correct wiring errors using ohmmeters and continuity checkers
- Connect, verify and specify pressure transducers, thermocouples and other sensors
- Set up and specify power supplies for sensor excitation voltages
- Read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, specifications, drawings, manuals, blueprints and engineering sketches
- Perform layout and wiring of instrumentation I/O breakout panels
- Support fellow technicians and engineering employees using shop assembly equipment and hand tools
- Collaborate with test engineers to troubleshoot failures and issues from test data
- Commission instrumentation and control systems
- Perform basic VFD and PLC diagnostics
Required Qualifications
- 3-5 years of electrical technician experience
- Training and experience in basic oscilloscope and multimeter operation, soldering wires and connectors, crimping tools, wire stripping, ohm's law, continuity testing, pinning military type connectors, routing and tie wrapping cables, drilling and tapping holes, and building junction boxes
- Software and computer skills including Windows Operating Systems and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Expertise with instrumentation including Resistance Temperature Devices (RTDs), strain gages, load cells, displacement transducers, and pressure transducers
- Experience with National Instruments DAQ systems
- Experience configuring CAN Bus Digital Sensors, valve controllers, and thermocouple scanners
- Experience with DC power supplies, DC-DC convertors, UPS installations, heat shrink tubing, cable harnessing, lacing, and proper strain relief concepts
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge in signal conditioning concepts for various sensor types, including thermocouple Types K and E, TC bonding concepts, TC probes through thermowell sheaths, and cold junction compensation concepts
