The Role
You will perform fabrication and welding of flight-grade stainless steel assemblies, custom steel tooling, and ground support equipment to engineering prints. You will work on R&D test site equipment, launch site fabrication and structures, and production line tooling. This position is based at our Manufacturing and Test site in Briggs, TX, just north of Austin/Cedar Park.
Your Responsibilities
- Perform welding on aluminum and steel structures, assemblies, and piping using stick, TIG, and MIG techniques to required tolerances
- Determine layouts and weld parts, assemblies, and piping to engineering drawings and specifications
- Read complex piping and instrumentation diagrams and shop drawings for installation, troubleshooting, and repair of major systems and subsystems
- Perform tube, piping, and conduit installation for fluid system fabrication, upgrades, and modifications
- Use mechanical and test tools including wrenches, torque wrenches, calipers, micrometers, and gages to perform work to specifications and maintain equipment
- Operate heavy equipment including boom lifts and forklifts
- Travel to launch sites as required to support the program
- Maintain site appearance and contribute to continuous improvement
Basic Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- 3+ years of relevant welding experience
- Experience with MIG, TIG, Stick, and Flux Core welding
- Experience with structural and pipe welding
- Knowledge of heat applications and heat absorbents during welding to prevent part warpage
- Knowledge of shop practices including layout, drilling, sawing, and grinding
- Experience operating forklifts, cranes, and other machinery; lifting and rigging experience preferred
- Ability to work overtime hours and weekends as needed
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs unassisted
- Ability to stoop, bend, crawl, maneuver in tight spaces, and work on elevated structures
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of relevant welding experience
- Experience welding stainless steel cryogenic pipe systems
- Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical equipment problems and apply timely resolutions
Weld Test Requirements
TIG:
- 2 inch schedule 10 stainless steel pipe (6G)
- 2 inch schedule 160 stainless steel pipe (6G)
Stick/Flux:
- 1/2 inch tee plate carbon steel vertical/overhead (Stick)
- 1/2 inch tee plate carbon steel vertical/overhead (Flux)
