The Role
You will demonstrate extreme ownership of propulsion hardware throughout its entire lifecycle. As the technical expert, you will conceptualize, design, develop and deliver valves, regulators and actuators for critical systems, managing both Firefly-developed and commercial-off-the-shelf components.
Your Responsibilities
- Design, develop and deliver high-performance propulsion components and fluid systems
- Own complete product development lifecycle from conception through qualification and handoff to production
- Prepare and lead Preliminary Design Reviews, Critical Design Reviews, Test Readiness Reviews and data reviews
- Author and execute qualification and acceptance test plans with hands-on hardware problem solving
- Lead cross-functional teams of analysts, manufacturing engineers, quality engineers, supply chain representatives and test engineers
- Resolve non-conformances and implement design changes to improve manufacturability and yield
- Develop simulation-based design methods and validate through subscale and full-scale testing
- Lead failure investigations and implement root cause mitigations
- Standardize solutions across programs and product lines
- Identify and implement cost-saving and risk-reduction measures
- Qualify existing and new product lines following SMC-S-016 and S-080 standards
- Manage multiple projects with competing priorities
Required Qualifications
- BS in Aerospace Engineering or related engineering discipline
- 3 or more years of experience in valve or fluid system design
- Strong comprehension of fluid mechanics, heat transfer, structural analysis, materials and manufacturing processes
- Deep understanding of fluid systems sizing, valve design and operation, instrumentation, flexible element design and integration, and fluid fittings
- Ability to create analytical and numerical models of engineering devices and processes
- Proven ability to manage complex projects in collaborative, fast-paced multidisciplinary environments
- Demonstrated interest in advancing commercial space
- Self-motivated with ability to work with minimal direction
- Ability to develop creative, economical solutions
Desired Qualifications
- Experience as a Responsible, Manufacturing or Test Engineer on aerospace fluids subsystems
- Component test experience
- Proficiency with GD&T and Design for Manufacturability
- Proficiency with FEA and/or CFD analysis
- Knowledge of high-pressure, cryogenic, hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Experience with valve and regulator design
- Experience with liquid oxygen or other cryogenic operations
- Experience modeling fluid networks
- Experience with rapid hardware development techniques
