About the Role

This entry-level position is for engineers ready to work on spacecraft component testing. You will integrate, instrument and test rocket and spacecraft components using world-class test stands, supporting Firefly's component and structures testing programmes across Alpha, A330/MLV, Blue Ghost and Elytra.

You will partner with vehicle and component engineers to develop test plans, execute procedures on console, and analyse data to ensure systems operate as expected. You will work hands-on in the field on time-sensitive applications, troubleshoot fluid, electrical and mechanical systems, and identify improvements to test processes and infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate, instrument and test rocket and spacecraft components and assemblies
  • Execute test plans and procedures using voice comm systems, data display and control systems
  • Work daily test stand operations
  • Develop test procedures to check out and operate launch vehicle systems, subsystems and individual components
  • Diagnose and rework fluid, electrical and mechanical problems on stand
  • Analyse and review data using numerical analysis tools to interpret test results
  • Develop and execute system validations, activations and upgrades
  • Work with GSE engineers to optimise test and launch systems designs
  • Develop automated scripts that support test operations
  • Participate in resolving issues, non-conformances and failure investigations
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities for performance, reliability and cost
  • Potentially travel to launch site for integrated vehicle operations and launch (up to 20%)
  • Ability to work 2nd shift up to 50% of the time

Required Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering or related engineering discipline
  • Experience with 3D and 2D CAD software
  • Ability to work on test stands and use standard mechanical and electrical tools
  • Exceptional comprehension of engineering fundamentals
  • Exceptional writing and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and be on your feet all day when required
  • Works well in a collaborative multidisciplinary environment

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with hydraulics, actuators and load cells
  • Fluid system testing, preferably with cryogenics
  • Launch vehicle testing or launch operations experience
  • Fluid and combustion fundamentals understanding
  • Experience building, troubleshooting or operating fluid and electrical systems
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings including GD&T and P&IDs
  • Data acquisition and control methods knowledge
  • Data analysis tools and custom code development experience
  • Instrumentation and instrumentation deployment methods familiarity
  • Independent, driven, able to develop solutions with minimal guidance
  • Able to prioritise and execute tasks in high-pressure fast-paced environments
