The Role

As Power Electronics Engineer on the HAPS program, you will contribute to the design of the power subsystem for ICEYE's stratospheric electric aircraft. This is a hardware-focused role spanning circuit design, lab bring-up, and test. You will own defined subsystems end to end, from requirements definition through schematic design, hardware bring-up, verification testing, and documentation for readiness review.

What You Will Do

  • Battery testing and characterization: cell and pack level testing, including capacity, impedance, and cycling measurements, and support for safety qualification testing such as short circuit and thermal runaway testing
  • Solar array integration: defining and validating the electrical interface between the solar array and the power bus, including protection circuitry and bring-up testing
  • Power electronics design: designing and validating protection and power conversion circuits, including the bus tie unit (an electronically controlled high current protection device with current sensing and MCU level telemetry and control) and DC-DC converters
  • System verification: board level bring-up and system integration testing to confirm the power subsystem performs to specification under nominal and fault conditions
  • Documentation: producing and maintaining design documentation, test reports, and requirement compliance records

Must Have

  • Demonstrated experience in power electronics design for battery powered and/or solar powered systems, including familiarity with DC-DC converter topologies
  • Practical experience with hardware bring-up, debugging, and verification testing of power electronics using standard laboratory equipment (oscilloscopes, electronic loads, power supplies, battery cyclers)
  • Experience with lithium-ion battery systems, including characterization, safety limits, and thermal behavior
  • Technical grounding in solar/photovoltaic array integration, including electrical interfacing of a variable voltage source to a power bus
  • Proficiency with schematic capture and PCB design tools, preferably Altium Designer
  • Experience with embedded systems as applied to power electronics, including telemetry acquisition and control interfaces between power hardware and a microcontroller
  • Strong technical writing ability, with experience producing design documentation, test reports, and requirement traceability records
  • Ability to work independently against defined requirements while coordinating effectively within a small technical team

Nice to Have

  • Experience with aerospace or other high reliability electronics programs
  • Familiarity with component derating methodologies and EMI/EMC design practice
  • Familiarity with embedded communication protocols relevant to power system telemetry and control (e.g. CAN, I2C)
  • Experience with power delivery network (PDN) analysis, including reflection/impedance testing to validate transient response and stability under load

About You

You report to the HAPS Avionics Team Lead and will work in a hybrid arrangement from our Valencia, Spain office. Employment is subject to applicable security screening, including SUPO where required.
