ICEYE · Espoo, Finland · Mechanical · first seen 2026-10-23

The Role

We're looking for a Senior Mechanical & Thermal Production Technician to strengthen our satellite production operations as we scale toward standardized, high-volume manufacturing. You will independently execute complex assembly, subsystem integration, and thermal verification testing following detailed work instructions and AIT procedures. You'll act as a technical anchor for your assigned production area, ensuring workstation readiness and driving frontline troubleshooting alongside Specialists and AIT Engineering.

Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Perform and support mechanical assembly, integration, and testing of precision, high-value satellite hardware.
  • Take ownership of day-to-day technical readiness in your assigned production area, including tools, fixtures, work instructions, and workstation setup.
  • Provide practical guidance, troubleshooting support, and on-the-job coaching to technicians, helping them build confidence and independence.
  • Collaborate with Senior Technician, Production Line Owners, and AIT Engineering to investigate root causes and implement corrective actions for build issues and non-conformances.
  • Identify bottlenecks, recurring defects, unnecessary handling, and sources of rework; work with the team to implement improvements and check their effectiveness.
  • Apply Lean and 6S principles to create safe, organized, ergonomic, and efficient workstations.
  • Review and refine work instructions, travelers, and checklists to capture redlines and improve procedural clarity and manufacturability.
  • Support the transition from prototype and low-volume builds to repeatable production by capturing lessons learned and helping establish reliable processes.
  • Improve throughput while protecting safety, quality, and a sustainable working pace. Raise capacity or workload concerns early and help address their underlying causes.
  • Build support for process changes by involving the people doing the work, explaining the reasons, and incorporating their feedback.
  • Work with engineering and quality teams to resolve production issues and introduce process changes through the appropriate review and approval steps.

Must Have

  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience in mechanical assembly, integration, or production, with demonstrated ability to work independently on complex hardware.
  • Experience in a quality-critical or complex manufacturing environment, such as space, aerospace, automotive, robotics, or industrial automation.
  • Demonstrated ownership of a production activity, workstation, or technical problem, including coordinating support and following actions through to completion.
  • Working knowledge of Lean manufacturing and 6S, supported by practical examples of improving workstation organization, workflow, or standard work.
  • Hands-on experience with rework and repair of aerospace mechanical structures, including aluminum components and helicoil (threaded insert) installation and replacement.
  • Confident use of precision hand tools, torque tools, and measuring equipment, with the ability to interpret mechanical drawings, tolerances, and work instructions.
  • A solid practical understanding of mechanical assemblies, fastening methods, alignment, and safe hardware handling.
  • Experience coaching technicians and collaborating with experienced peers, with a clear, respectful, and practical communication style.
  • Ability to learn production processes quickly, identify improvement opportunities, and turn them into workable solutions with the team.
  • A mindset focused on repeatability, documentation, and knowledge sharing as production scales.
  • Willingness and ability to work onsite in Espoo in production and integration environments.
  • Ability to adapt quickly with the fast-paced environment of ICEYE.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with satellite or spacecraft mechanical assembly, integration, or testing.
  • Experience helping a team transition from prototype or low-volume builds to standardized, higher-volume production.
  • Experience creating or improving work instructions, visual standards, training materials, or workstation layouts.
  • Familiarity with structured problem-solving and root-cause analysis, including Six Sigma tools.
  • Basic knowledge of electronics or mechatronics.
  • Experience transferring production processes or sharing best practices across multiple sites.
