Software AIT Engineer - Japan Verified today
The Role
ICEYE is seeking a Software AIT (Assembly, Integration & Testing) Engineer to build the test software backbone of satellite production in Japan. You will design and develop the test framework used by all AIT activities from scratch, own the simulators that enable hardware-in-the-loop testing, and debug flight software behavior during integration. Working closely with Electrical and Mechanical AIT engineers, you will turn manual procedures into automated, repeatable test sequences and provide the data and dashboards needed to verify every spacecraft. The framework you build is intended to become the reference for ICEYE AIT globally.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain the AIT test framework from scratch, including architecture, test execution, sequencing, logging and result reporting
- Define the software stack, tooling and development practices for AIT test software (version control, code review, CI/CD, testing of the test code itself)
- Develop and own satellite and subsystem simulators used for hardware-in-the-loop and software-in-the-loop testing
- Debug flight software behavior during integration and test, including on-board software loading, telemetry and telecommand anomalies, and OBC-driven subsystem responses
- Build data pipelines from test equipment and satellite telemetry into InfluxDB, and create Grafana dashboards for test monitoring, trending and system health
- Support Electrical and Mechanical AIT engineers by turning their test procedures into automated, repeatable test sequences
- Ensure the framework is designed for global reuse: documented, modular, and adoptable by AIT teams in other ICEYE sites
- Contribute to production readiness and design reviews (PRR, CDR) by providing feedback on software testability and simulator requirements
- Interface with Global AIT, Flight Software Engineering, Ground Software and Mission Operations teams on test standards and interfaces
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional software development experience, with a focus on test automation, test frameworks or tooling for hardware systems, preferably in aerospace, automotive, robotics or other high-reliability industries
- Strong proficiency in Python, including designing maintainable, modular software architectures
- Experience building or significantly extending a test automation framework from the ground up
- Experience testing embedded systems or hardware, including communication protocols and interfaces (UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet)
- Experience debugging embedded or real-time software in a hardware context
- Solid software engineering practices: Git, code review, CI/CD, unit and integration testing
- Experience with time-series data and visualization (InfluxDB, Grafana or similar)
- Proficient English (written and spoken) for cross-functional collaboration
Nice to Have
- Experience with spacecraft software or ground segment tools (CCSDS / PUS telemetry and telecommand, YAMCS, OpenC3 COSMOS)
- Experience developing simulators or digital twins for hardware-in-the-loop testing
- Experience with instrument control and EGSE automation (SCPI, VISA, programmable power supplies, data acquisition)
- Knowledge of C or C++ for reading and debugging embedded flight software
- Experience with Linux, Docker and infrastructure as code
- Experience with Atlassian Cloud tools (Jira, Confluence)
- Proficient Japanese (written and spoken)
What We Offer
- A role in Defence Technology and Earth Observation with scale-up approach
- Independent role with supportive, diverse work environment
- Health insurance
- Time for self-development, research, training, conferences, or certification schemes
- Relocation support, where applicable (flight tickets, accommodation, relocation agency support)
- Inspiring, collaborative offices and silent workspaces
Employment is subject to applicable security screening.
