Test Engineer Verified today
Role highlights
- Test Engineer, permanent, onsite in Valencia
- Reports to Laboratory Lead and Test Architect
- Security screening required, including SUPO where applicable
Why this role matters
You'll plan, run, automate and document the lab's tests across simulation, signal capture, playback and hardware-in-the-loop, ensuring results are repeatable and trusted. ICEYE is building a space-based RF constellation covering 100 MHz to 30 GHz alongside its SAR fleet. The Experimentation Lab in Valencia develops, simulates and validates that capability: it simulates the constellation end to end, captures real signals from real hardware, and generates and plays back signals through a channel simulator for algorithm validation.
Specialists will build the simulation, capture and playback systems. You'll turn those into tests that run reliably, on schedule, with traceable results. You'll work across the full breadth of the lab: setting up hardware, running campaigns, automating procedures, keeping equipment calibrated and inventoried, and producing evidence engineers and customers can rely on.
You'll have an early seat in a new lab with direct influence on how ICEYE builds and proves this capability.
Your responsibilities
- Plan and run tests across end-to-end simulation runs, emitter capture sessions, playback and channel simulator campaigns, flatsat and receiver tests, and algorithm validation
- Write procedures and automate them: turn manual setups into scripted, repeatable test sequences and add them to regression so each software or firmware build is checked
- Set up and maintain the lab: instruments, SDRs, cabling, fixtures, screened enclosure, emitter bays, network and compute; track calibration, configuration and inventory so every result records what produced it
- Manage test data: keep recordings, run outputs and metadata organised, searchable and backed up, with provenance to reproduce results
- Analyse and report: compare results to expectations and previous runs, flag regressions and anomalies, write test reports, and log issues with evidence needed to fix them
- Support field campaigns, customer and partner demonstrations, and reproduction of on-orbit anomalies on the ground
- Run the lab safely: RF safety, ESD, equipment handling, access control and controlled material handling
Must haves
- Hands-on test experience in electronics, RF, space or comparable hardware lab: test setups, procedures, execution and reporting
- Comfort with lab instruments (oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers, signal generators, power supplies) and basic RF practice (connectors, attenuators, cable loss)
- Scripting for test automation and data analysis, typically Python
- Organised and rigorous working practice: you write things down, version them, and can reproduce previous results
- Clear written English
Nice to haves
- Satellite AIT, flatsat or hardware-in-the-loop testing
- SDR experience, RF capture or signal analysis
- Test automation frameworks, CI pipelines, instrument control (SCPI/VISA)
- Test data management, databases, dashboards
- Verification under formal process (ECSS or similar)
- Experience setting up a lab from scratch: equipment selection, layout, safety, calibration programme
- Spanish for working with local suppliers and facilities
- Eligibility for national security clearance
What success looks like
- 6 months: lab equipment is inventoried, calibrated and configuration-tracked; capture and playback sessions run from written procedures with data stored and findable
- 12 months: core tests are automated and running in regression; test reports are produced routinely; you've supported the first field campaign
- 24 months: the lab runs as a service; other teams book and run tests with your procedures; results arrive with evidence attached
