What You'll Do
As a Harness Design Engineer II on the Avionics team, you will contribute to harness design and integration activities from conceptual design to system integration. This includes component selection, process development, qualification, and production. You will demonstrate proficiency across all phases of harness design and gain exposure to subsystem and system-level design through collaboration with cross-disciplinary stakeholders. This role reports to the Director of Engineering, Avionics.
Required Qualifications
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government Secret/Top Secret security clearance.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical discipline.
- 2-3 years of professional experience in wire harness design, electrical systems design, or hands-on harness manufacturing.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical layout drawings.
- Understanding of wire gauge selection, current carrying capacity, and voltage drop calculations.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD software (NX, CATIA, SolidWorks, or similar) for harness design and routing.
- Experience creating wiring diagrams, routing in 3D, and producing 2D drawings for production harnesses.
- Ability to generate and maintain accurate technical documentation in accordance with engineering standards.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present technical work at design reviews.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and manufacturing/integration personnel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with aerospace, defense, or spacecraft electrical systems.
- Experience with NX CAD software specifically.
- Hands-on experience with development and test harness design for qualification testing.
- Experience developing or contributing to Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
- Experience designing harness mounts, brackets, and secondary structures.
- Proficiency or certification in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
- Experience supporting harness production, manufacturing processes, and vehicle integration activities.
- Exposure to R&D investigations or trade studies focused on design optimization, mass reduction, or cost savings.
- Familiarity with reentry vehicle systems or high-reliability electrical systems.
- Understanding of signal routing optimization techniques.
Compensation and Location
California annual base wage: $106,000 to $150,000. Pay is determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual pay will be determined on a case-by-case basis based on interviews, job-related skills, relevant education and experience, certifications, and internal equity.
This position requires in-office presence in Playa Vista, CA.
