Mission Brief

You will join the Combustion Devices team and take responsibility for the thrust chamber assembly: injector head, combustion chamber and nozzle. You will design and analyse these components, plan and evaluate the tests that prove them, and work with production to make sure what you design can actually be built, quickly and at scale. This is a fast moving environment with a short design, build and test cycle.

Your Role

  • Design injector heads and injector elements, combustion chambers and nozzles.
  • Perform trade off studies and plan the technical roadmap for thrust chamber assemblies of pump fed, liquid propellant engines.
  • Create thrust chamber subcomponent models and validate them against test data.
  • Perform detailed injection, combustion and cooling CFD studies to assess injector and cooling channel designs.
  • Plan and execute subcomponent and integrated engine test campaigns, and analyse the data gathered.
  • Work with the production teams to keep designs manufacturable, fast and affordable at scale.

Qualifications Required

  • MSc in mechanical or aerospace engineering, or a comparable technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Several years designing liquid rocket engine components.
  • Excellent understanding of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics and combustion physics.
  • Significant experience conducting reacting CFD of injectors and combustion chambers.
  • Experience with gas/gas or gas/liquid injectors in high pressure rocket combustors.
  • Experience analysing test data from rocket combustors or comparable hardware.
  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB or a comparable programming language, and in 3D CAD.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for test and launch operations.

Bonus Skills

  • Experience planning and organising test campaigns together with several other parties.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing techniques such as additive manufacturing, CNC machining, brazing, welding or casting.
  • Experience correlating models against hot fire test data.

Benefits

  • Employee Participation Program: virtual company share program.
  • 30 days vacation annually.
  • Company pension plan with 20% employer contribution after probation period.
  • Subsidised daily lunches.
  • Fully financed Deutschlandticket for public transport.
  • Rental workwear with laundry service.
  • Sponsored sports club memberships (EGYM Wellpass).
  • Individual learning allowance after probation period.
  • Childcare allowance for non-school-age children.
