Propulsion Design Engineer, Propulsion (m/f/d) Verified today
Your Mission
As Propulsion Design Engineer focused on engine cycle calculations, you will build and maintain engine models that drive load point predictions, performance uncertainty quantification, and flight software parameters. You will work within the Turbopump Team and collaborate across all engine subsystems.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain modular engine models for existing engines, fluid systems, and conceptual development-phase engines to predict load points and enable performance studies.
- Coordinate with subsystem owners to characterize every component and maintain the component performance database.
- Provide load point predictions during development and test campaigns; define acceptance criteria for flight engines and qualification tests.
- Build tools for engine load point predictions to accelerate acceptance testing and maintain component characterization databases.
- Serve as primary contact for engine performance metrics to the Guidance Navigation Control team; conduct uncertainty quantification for those metrics.
- Maintain databases of characteristic parameters (Isp, mass flow) and lookup tables for engine transients.
- Maintain secondary engine models relevant for rocket kinematics in all mission phases (chill down bleed flows, purges, etc.).
- Conduct conceptional engine performance studies for future launch systems and Spectrum iterations.
- Ensure consistent data acquisition quality across development testing, stage testing, and flight.
- Define sensor requirements for in-flight engine performance verification.
- Develop uncertainty propagation analysis of the entire measurement chain with test rig teams to maintain high data quality standards.
Required Qualifications
- M.Sc. degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or equivalent.
- Exceptional knowledge in thermodynamics and rocket motor system architecture and subsystem interactions.
- Knowledge of measurement technology and stochastic analysis (uncertainty quantification and propagation).
- Fundamental understanding of combustion, thrust chambers, valves, and turbopump systems.
- Proven experience developing and validating empiric, semi-empiric, or analytical models; experience setting up cycle models of complex fluid systems and machinery.
- Effective collaborator in multi-disciplinary, cross-functional teams; organized, detail-oriented, and proactive with ability to adapt to shifting priorities.
- Driven to learn, passionate about new space, fluent in English.
Bonus Skills
- Professional experience in rocket propulsion development.
- Working experience with Simulink or cycle model development in rocket or aircraft engines.
- Willingness to travel to support engine test and launch campaigns abroad.
Benefits
- Employee Participation Program: virtual company share program.
- 30 days of vacation.
- Company pension plan with 20% employer contribution after probation period.
- Subsidised daily lunches.
