Senior Structures Design Engineer, Launch Vehicle Structures (m/f/d) Verified today
Your Role
As part of the structural design team, you will be responsible for the design and development of the primary and secondary structures of the Spectrum launch vehicle. You will assess existing and new design concepts, provide technical guidance to other design engineers, and develop critical systems yourself.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop composite and metallic structures for the Spectrum launch vehicle
- Develop critical primary structures, their interfaces and adjacent secondary structures
- Create CAD models, manufacturing and integration drawings including BOM
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams (Analysis, Production, Assembly & Integration, Testing, Quality, Avionics) to deliver robust, innovative, and optimized structural solutions
- Define and establish design standards, best practices and design documentation
- Review designs and manufacturing drawings of the structures team
- Prepare detailed road maps for product development and maintain timelines
- Host weekly meetings with stakeholders to ensure efficient product development
- Prepare design reviews, risk assessments, trade-off studies and related documentation
- Provide solutions to production and assembly non-conformities
- Define necessary requirements and engineering change requests
- Serve as company focal point for external suppliers
- Mentor and provide technical guidance for design challenges in the team
Requirements
- M.Sc. in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering or similar
- 8+ years professional experience in aerospace structures design
- Excellent knowledge in lightweight and composite structures design
- Good knowledge of carbon composite manufacturing processes
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
- Fluent in English
Bonus Skills
- Practical experience with propellant tank and pressure vessel design
- Practical experience in launch vehicle development programs
- Strong practical experience with SolidWorks, Siemens NX or similar CAD software
- Practical experience with material qualification and composite manufacturing techniques
- Knowledge of latest industry trends, materials and technologies
- German language
