Structures Analysis Engineer, Launch Vehicle Structure (m/f/d) Verified today
Mission Brief
You will be responsible for the structural analysis of entire assemblies belonging to our rocket's primary and secondary structures. From trading design concepts to sizing and validating design iterations and examining the impact of manufacturing deviations, you will play an important role in guiding design decisions and pushing performance and reliability of our structures forward.
As a Mid-Level Structures Analysis Engineer, you will support the analysis, verification and development of launch vehicle structures throughout the entire lifecycle, from concept to qualification.
Your Role
- Perform detailed stress analysis of aerospace structures and components using both classical hand calculations and advanced finite element methods (FEM), mostly of CFRP structures.
- Identify failure scenarios and collaborate with design engineers to review and optimize structural designs.
- Define applicable load cases, addressing the impact of thermal, quasi-static loads (arising from random vibrations) and other environmental factors.
- Analyse and provide possible solutions to manufacturing non-conformities.
- Develop test plans and support physical testing of components to verify sizing assumptions and qualify hardware.
- Prepare comprehensive stress analysis reports and documentation for internal and external use.
- Improve standards and toolchain for structural verification.
- Operate independently with moderate guidance, and be familiar with classical design standards and CAD software.
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Engineering, Aerospace, Mechanical, Computational Mechanics, or related field.
- At least 3 years of experience analysing aerospace structures.
- Good knowledge in classical hand-calculations and advanced finite element modelling of aerospace structures (Hypermesh, Optistruct, Nastran or equivalent).
- Self-motivated, collaborative, and capable of working independently with moderate guidance.
- Good engineering intuition with regards to load paths and failure mechanisms.
- Strong teamwork skills to contribute to team goals and support large projects, including interaction with other departments.
- Fluent English.
Bonus Skills
- Practical experience in the space sector, preferably in launch vehicle development programmes.
- Previous experience using CAD, preferably with Siemens NX.
- Good understanding of composite structures' behaviour over a wide range of temperatures.
- Practical experience with Material Qualification and composite manufacturing techniques.
- Experience with winding and draping of carbon fibre (design or hands-on).
- Knowledge in quality standards, specifications and procedures around CFRP components.
- German language skills.
