Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer Verified today
Kapta Space is a VC-funded startup in Seattle, WA, developing electronically-steered radar for geospatial intelligence. Our technology enables earth observation via synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and advanced defense missions including target tracking.
The Role
- Architect, design, and implement embedded firmware for our Radar Sensor
- Lead the complete lifecycle of radar operation software: development, testing, and on-orbit support
- Collaborate with radar algorithm, hardware, FPGA, and mechanical engineers to build reliable payload firmware
- Perform hardware-aware optimizations of algorithms targeting embedded processors, edge compute, and ground servers
- Evaluate implementation complexity and resource requirements (compute, memory, power); produce trade studies
- Generate test plans and validate software on hardware to meet end-user requirements
- Assist in recruiting and hiring team members
Required Qualifications
- BS or MS in engineering, computer science, or related field
- 8+ years embedded firmware development experience (radar background ideal)
- Knowledge of Board Support Package, Operating Systems, Bootloader, or Microcontrollers in satellite systems
- Proficiency with Git, CI/CD, code reviews, and version control
- Strong C/C++ experience
Bonus Skills
- Multi-threaded system design (tasks, priorities, deadlocks)
- Embedded firmware debugging (clock-level issues, interrupts, hardware interfaces)
- Multi-processor embedded designs and peripheral interfaces (SPI, UART, GPIO, I2C, Ethernet)
- Low-latency data movement between FPGAs, processors, storage, and networking
- Networking stack knowledge (Ethernet, TCP/IP)
- Ability to read schematic diagrams
- Ability to obtain and hold TS security clearance
U.S. Citizenship, Lawful Permanent Residency, or Refugee/Asylee Status required to comply with ITAR export regulations.
