About the role
Loft's Onboard Software group builds the flight software that powers our spacecraft and core products. Hyperdrive is the common platform providing every onboard service across our fleet with core capabilities including housekeeping, event handling, automated fault detection and recovery, and lifecycle management.
In this role you will:
- Design, implement, and refine software with high ownership, driving features from concept through delivery while ensuring robustness and reliability.
- Review code and enforce adherence to development processes, style guides, and design standards.
- Design and implement unit tests for both your own and peer-authored code.
- Use version control systems to create feature branches, manage code, and merge into production.
- Contribute to onboard software architecture through design proposals and collaborative review.
- Participate in review and enhancement of software development processes and design standards.
- Coordinate with downstream teams on release, distribution, and adoption of new versions.
- Directly participate in operating Loft's on-orbit satellite fleet.
Required experience
- 5+ years software engineering experience
- Proficiency in C/C++ (C++11 or newer) and Python
- Experience with version control systems such as Git
- Experience with continuous integration tools (e.g. GitLab-CI, Jenkins)
- Experience with build systems (e.g. Make, CMake)
- Experience with library management and ABI/API version control
- Understanding of distributed architecture
- Familiarity with networking protocols (UDP, TCP, IP) and POSIX standards
- Experience developing multi-threaded applications
Preferred experience
- Additional programming languages such as Go or Rust
- Embedded Linux operation including Yocto, device trees, systemd, and Linux on ARM platforms
- Unit test frameworks (pytest, Googletest, Unity)
- Middleware frameworks (gRPC, ZMQ, NATS)
- Containerization technologies (Docker, K3S, systemd-nspawn)
