The Role

Loft's Peripheral Services team owns the software that integrates third-party devices and payloads into our standardized satellite platform. You'll develop applications that handle low-level communication protocol details, expose connected devices behind standardized APIs, and enable safe, reliable operation of spacecraft equipment at scale.

You'll help connect diverse spacecraft hardware to the rest of the platform and enable successful missions in orbit.

What You'll Do

  • Design, implement, and refine software with high ownership, driving impactful features from concept through delivery
  • Ensure robustness and reliability across the codebase
  • Review code and provide clear feedback to maintain consistency and quality
  • Design and implement unit and integration tests for self-authored and peer code
  • Contribute to onboard software architecture through design proposals and collaborative review
  • Utilize version control systems and collaborative development workflows
  • Coordinate with downstream teams on release distribution and adoption
  • Directly participate in operating Loft's on-orbit satellite fleet

You Have

  • 3+ years' software engineering experience with C/C++ (C++11 or newer) and Python
  • Proficiency with Git and collaborative development workflows
  • Experience with continuous integration tools (GitLab-CI, Jenkins, or similar)
  • Knowledge of build systems (Make, CMake)
  • Understanding of distributed architecture
  • Familiarity with networking protocols (UDP, TCP, IP) and POSIX standards
  • Experience developing multi-threaded applications
  • Previous team leader or manager role

Nice to Have

  • Proficiency with Go or Rust
  • Experience with embedded Linux: Yocto, device trees, systemd, Linux on ARM platforms
  • Unit test framework experience (pytest, Googletest, Unity)
  • Middleware framework experience (gRPC, ZMQ, NATS)
  • Containerization technologies (Docker, K3S, systemd-nspawn)
  • Space systems and concepts experience
